Water Temp reading: "-------" PLZ HELP

Well I just had My FD dyno tuned and a about a week after that (Sunday night) i went to go drive. It was one of the coldest nights this year at around 40 degrees Fahrenheit. As soon as I started the car it revved up like it always does, but then it just cut off.

I immediately noticed that the water temp on the commander read " ------" with a max of " -----"

Afraid I had flooded the engine I tried starting the car as if it was already flooded. I got it to catch and kept my foot on the gas until the engine had run for a while to be somewhat warm. when I let off the gas the car died again, but it started right up after that with the correct water temp showing and it idled just fine.

I thought this was just a random glitch but the other night it happened again the exact same. It started out not showing any water temp but ended up starting right up like normal.

Anyone have any idea why im having this problem or how to fix it?

Thanks in advance,

Josh

Before starting the engine, and if it sat overnight, the air intake and water temps should be within a couple of degress of each other. Also their voltages on the sensor screen should be almost the same.

If not, you have either a bad sensor or bad sensor wiring. If the voltage is almost 5V and does not change, it verifies the above.

Read up about adjusting the Water Temp Correction menu. You need my notes!

The PFC indication you noted will be displayed if you unplug the sensor, sounds like a connector is loose or you have an intermitant short in the wire harness.

ok with the sensor still reading " -----" on the pfc, If i can get the car started Ill have to hold my foot slightly on the gas to keep it running because it wont hold an idle. in this scenario the sensor reads 4.99 volts from the sensor check section of the commander. After about a minute of holding the gas the car will eventlay start running really rough. I let off the gas and go to start the car and it will start right up reading water temps correctly just as it should and continue to run. I have repeated these steps over and over and these events take place every single time I have this problem.

What could this mean? bad sensor? bad water correction tables or a short somewhere in the water temp sensor line?

Post your water temp table settings.

I suspect it's a bad sensor or bad wiring or loose/corroded connection at the sensor.
