throttle position settings...

I would like to make sure my TPS is set correctly, but its difficult. It seems that the settings in the FSM don't line up with the PFC readings.

the fsm wants you to run the car up to operating temp before checking the settings, which I can't do yet.

I am showing these readings as the car sits, stone cold.
VTA1: .65v
VTA2: 1.44v
Does this look okay? the fsm shows (narrow range?) .75-1.25v, or (full range) .1-.7v closed, but I don't think thats relevant since I can't warm it up. now those settings seem pretty wide for someone trying to dial in the tps, maybe you can clarify? I hope I'm not overthinking things. sorry for my Idiocy, but I'm getting there.

Time for some intelligent thinking on what Mazda said.

When an in-specs engine is cold: the HOT WAX ROD/FAST IDLE CAM unit which is used to raise idle rpms on a cold engine, will open the throttle a little.
Opening the throtlle a little, will increase the TPS voltage higher. Thus the normal reasoning for a warmed up engine.

But if you read the manual and study how the system works, it is a no-brainer.
There are two easy ways to dis-engage the fast idle cam.
Hold it's lever down with your finger or put a spacer between the rod and adjusting screw. When doing this, you should see the throttle close a little.

To be a good mechanic requires thinking!

okay, okay. thanks for the constructive critisizm.

I see that VTA1 = full range rading and VTA2 = narrow range reading. I guess I missed that in the pfc manual. I guess I should shoot for about 1.00v narrow range and .40v full range.
