Exclamation For those thinking of using Spyfishy's maps...

Turns out the reason my R1 made awesome power for my mods was Spyfish's Power FC maps. I was basically running the base fuel maps (Spyfishy's doesn't change it much) and the ignition timing was *way* too advanced. I was seeing 24 degrees where I should've seen 12-15. This is no knock on Carson, I still love ya big guy . But, be careful guys...I'm lucky I didn't pop my motor.

BTW, w/conservative tuning, same boost, and addition of an M2 large IC and midpipe the car put down 330 rwhp, 261 rwt. An improvement of 10 rwh and 5 rwt over last time. But that's with very conservative maps. More tuning to follow.

Exactamundo. Don't use 'em. If you'd like, PM me your phone # and I can give you my revised ignition maps over the phone. You'll lose some power but will be running much safer.

This is exactly why I did not use them. I printed out his and the two from our club and compared them. It was obvious to me that his maps were way to aggressive. This plus the errors Chuck found convinced me these were not safe maps. Glad someone else saw this also.

Goddfellas,

How did you conclude they were too advanced for you? Whose maps are you using now, or did you just ertard the timing a bit on spyfishes?

He added his IC and mp right before his scheduled trip to Rotary Performance. Chris Ott then dyno tuned the car so I guess you could say they are Goodfellas' maps now.

Can you clarify what you are talking about pp13bNOS? I know there has been discusion, mainly from Chuck w., about the Apex not setting real timing at low rpm/boost values in the PowerFC maps. I don't know if this is the area you are refering to though.

Well, hell...

I went to plug 'em in one day and noticed that they were just about the same timing maps that I got from Ray's pre-tuned setup. So I left well enough alone. As safe(rich) as Ray sends these things out, I'd have to assume they're not that close to "on the edge" as you make it out to be.

Or am I being completely naive.

Chris wasn't able to use the wideband b/c I have an older downpipe where the mount is too close to the firewall. He used a narrowband instead. I'm hesitant to post the maps b/c they're very conservative. I'm planning on somehow resolving my downpipe issue and getting my R1 tuned w/the wideband. *Those* maps will be worth posting.

All i was talking about was that my n/a pp engine has a total advace of 20 degrees leading, and 10 for the trailing. Anytime you turbo charge an engine, you're suppose to reduce timing, as with nos. For a 3rd gen motor to use 24 of advance is crazy. CJ

The PFC shows total timing advance, but I haven't seen anywhere what this is in advance *of*.

Does anyone understand how the PFC timing maps relate to actual + and - degrees of timing (what is most often available in other threads, as far as I can tell.

I also have a completeley nieve set of questions (very new to this topic) Wich way is "+ deg"? does that set off the spark plug earlier in the rotation or later.

And I assume that "advance" is to set spark off earlier. (+ deg?)
