Single Turbo Tuning

First let me says thats for emailing me the famous tuning notes, it is excellent. Now I have been finally cruising aroundin vacuum tuning the car,so far so good. I have three questions before I go into boost on the dyno:

1. At 12psi, pump gas, with a T76, what should be a good average rwhp? I need to know if the tuning is okay so far.

2. At 12psi, pump gas, what is a good knock average and maximum?

3. I have the timing split safely set at 15, how low can I go at 12psi?

Thats ot folks..no maps need, just some honest experience one word answers. I will forward to results after a couple days of response.

1. At 12psi, pump gas, with a T76, what should be a good average rwhp?
A. Depends on other mods that affect intake and exhaust flow. Over 300whp.

2. At 12psi, pump gas, what is a good knock average and maximum?
A. Varies for every engine but I never like over a max of 60 on a quiet engine.
But then some engines are noisy even off boost which then invalidates this.

3. I have the timing split safely set at 15, how low can I go at 12psi?
A. 10 split. Search on my recent post with a display of split on this forum.
No need for 15 split below about 6 psi boost.

Exhaust has not Cat, 3-inch downpipe and piping, Aftermarket airfilter. I will use to get an idea of how healthy the motor is.

Okay..I have yet to see over 30 knock so far.

No need for 15 split below about 6 psi boost.
THanks..i will check out the post. I notice alot of people have zero spilt in vacuum. Can I change that now?

I'm Chuck. Never use 0 split, use 3. It prevents posible problems caused by inaccuracies with the PFC and your crank angle pickups.
If you find my post that I mention, it shows all.

Sorry Chuck for calling you Chris..mistake. I found the post and made the changes already. I sent you an email also.

Who do you recommend to purchase plugs, wires, etc from on the forum. And what plugs would you suggest for my setup?

I prefer Taylor spark plug wires because they are the lowest impedance spiral wound ones that I have found.

NGK B9EGV or B10EGV plugs which are gap adjustable and non resistor also work towards a hotter spark. (requires the thin wall socket or enlarged hole in the rotor housings) Most motocycle shops carry the plugs.

What would you consider a quiet engine? An engine that doesn't have anything rattling around (brackets, wires, etc,) in the engine bay or a car that isn't inherently loud (aka, not like my car with a 4" turbo back exhaust)?

I have seen knock values as high as 50 when just below positive boost pressure (usually when starting from a stop), but have seen about 7 psi thus far and the knock values while in boost average about 30.

A quiet engine/car is one that you can drive around from idle to low boost and knock levels are below 20.

Mine is a little noisy due to the diff I think. But once on boost and all drive train slack is gone, knock(noise) is below 10.

I did a 10 psi run today and didn't see any knock above 20, but like I said below boost I see upwords of 40-50...I guess that could be drivetrain slack or worn out motor mounts.?
