Shelf-life of Gasoline? (Very high knock readings)

My car has been down for a long time and I just had my 13B-rew rebuilt with a Race Port, 62-1, PFC and everything else needed to run it properly.
My mechanic set up my PFC to run a bit rich and safely for the break in with the Commander.
I'm new with the PFC so I'm not comfortable making any adjustments. I noticed that It's reading some very high knock levels. Very little at idle but sky rockets as soon as I touch the throttle. This happens with light driving under 3.5k rpm as well. The readings are upwards of 140 plus! Maybe more. I can't remember approximately when the last time I put fuel in the tank, But I'm guessing it's around 12-13 months old. (91 Octane).
Will old fuel cause these readings? About how long does 91 octane hold it's potency for? And do you think that a simple Flush and fresh fuel will bring these readings back down to a safe level?

Thank You, Dan

uh.........DRAIN THE TANK!!!!!!!!!!!!

Get yourself a portable gas can, and fill it up with high octane (around 2 gal), fill the tank back up after you empty the old stuff out and drive it to the nearest gas station and fill up with the good stuff.

I realize I need to drain the tank! That was'nt the question, but Thank You!

I did'nt even think about how old the gas was until I saw the knock levels on the PFC....That's when I realized how long it's been sitting in there.

Drain the tank of course, but I wouldn't trust a stock knock sensor, especially when it says you are knocking under light load...

Thanks guys, do you think this gas might be the Main Reason for such high levels of knock? Also, where would I purchase an aftermarket KS?

Check Knock Sensor

I might check the Knock Sensor, it may be loose and needs to be torqed to spec. Also watch the timimg numbers on the commander when knock begins to rise over fifty, maybe video tape. If you are NOT getting into boost, I do not think bad gas is your problem.

That's what I'm afraid of. (Flushing and filling the tank only to find the same problem)
I'll take a video of the commander readings when I get my parts back from the Machine shop next week. Hopefully you guys can take a look at it and understand what's going on. Thanks, Dan
