I just noticed that rx7.com is selling the pfc and commander at $980 which is only slightly more than the ebay price of $850 (or whatever) or the current group by of $800. I've heard that buying from official dealers will get a year warranty, english manuals, tech support, quick shipping, and a preloaded customized map. This seems worth the extra $100-$180 to me. Any other opinions?

Also is a preloaded basemap for a mildly modded car (dp, cb, and intake, possibly ic in the future) safe for running hard at the track?

 

yes, and yes (if it's from a shop like Rotary Performance, the default map should be fine with those mods at 10 psi).
