PowerFC FAQ 1.0 posted!

Hey guys -

Just finished the first version of the PowerFC FAQ. There's a lot more I want to add, but I wanted to go ahead and get what I had up so you guys can find all the errors in it .

Here's the FAQ -

http://www.clubrx.org/media/pfc/PowerFC_FAQ.pdf

I also dug up a copy of the English PowerFC manual, which is referenced in the FAQ. Here's a direct link to the manual -

http://www.clubrx.org/media/pfc/PowerFC_FD3S.pdf

Again, this is a living document - I want to fine-tune it and get EVERYTHING in there. There's still quite a bit that needs to be added. If you have something you'd like to add, PLEASE drop me a PM and I'll get it in the next version.

Thanks!
Dale

Good start Dale.. I'd suggest putting in some easy to understand illustrations or pics of at least which pins or wires to remove. More than one person has had the drawing from Apex'i backwards or has thought it was referring to the PFC connector when it refers to the harness connector (I probably just mixed that up myself) and has snipped the wrong wires/pins.

You might also make mention that the idle screw should probably be adjusted before you begin the learning procedure.

That's all that comes to mind right now..

I've got the wiring diagrams - that's in the "to add" file. The idle screw adjustment before starting the car is in there - I've also got it broken out for people who are already running a PFC.

Thanks!

Well - CRAP! My service provider is having problems this morning. Hopefully it will be back up soon.

I attached the FAQ to this post for the short term so you guys can get it while the server is goofed up.

Thanks Dale for the great start to the PFC faq! I'm hoping to need to use it as soon as I figure out where/how to buy a PFC... I have a change for you already though, rx7.com is now selling the pfc+commander for $980. Which is a much better price compared to the ebay deals than previous state-side prices.

I'll add that in - hopefully the other US vendors will start offering more realistic prices.

I've got most of the next version ready - anyone have anything else to add?

Just to answer one of the question in your FAQ, I live in Japan and have an FC with an AP Engineering Power FC. They were reprogrammed by AP engineering with an FC3S base map. The Power FC's for the FC3S are marked as such on the side of the ECU and are not interchangable with the one from the FD.

A few question out of personnal interest.

Last weekend I checked my engine for the Idle speed screw you are talking about which needs to be turned in and then half aturn back out.
It may sound like I'm a total noob but between all the other screws and levers on the TB I wasn't sure on which screw it really is. Maybe a picture helps. I have the manual but it'(s in French. No problem for me really, but I'm not that technical at French language.

- secondly, I read the PFC is handling the fans in another way than the stock ECU, meaning turning them on later (higher temp)

- third, for the US market you need to clip some pins (4). I'm in Europe so anybody knows if I need to clip them. I was told not.

The EGR valve is common technology in Europe. How can i check if it's there and how to handle it. Sensor/connector below the crossover IC pipe near the airpump?

thx

Neal

K Flip1 - thanks for the input! I have seen a page once where someone tried to figure out how to get an FD PowerFC to work on an FC. But, I'll revise that in the FAQ.

Speedworks - I would go ahead and clip or pull the wires out of the harness. Might as well - doesn't take that long to do. I'll get a pic of the air bleed adjustment screw and add that to the FAQ - I think I actually took one when I installed my PowerFC this weekend.

Bump.

This is great info for new PFC owners, or just anybody looking to learn the basics about a PFC.

Can we please sticky this?
