PowerFC dataloggit w/o Commander

Is it possible to use a dataloggit w/o a commander? Also, can the computer hooked up to the dataloggit display up to the minute changes while the car is running (I have an extra laptop, and would like to dashmount it so I can see what's happening... so I obviously would not really need a commander)

Thanks!
john

Yep and yep.

You should really consider getting the Commander though. I would never consider leaving a laptop in the car all the time. With the Commander, you never have to worry about dead batteries or increased theft/break-in.

Let me bump up this old thread for a little bit.

I was thinking about doing something like this myself. I know a lot of people with "carputers" have OBDII real time information as one of the options. I wanted to do something similar although with the Dataloggit. Does the dataloggit software show all of the information that is usually on the commander, on the screen all at the same time? Or are there other programs that work with the fc-box that do? Something in a nice graphical presentation.

Good question. I just put in mine and I'm trying to decide if I should keep the commander or not.

I answered my own q through more searching.

You can use the PFC w/o the Commander if you have the dataloggit and a laptop or carputer. But whether or not you have a setup that you are comfortable with (regarding theft) is another issue.

I'm still looking to see some screenshots of software that uses the fc-box.

The datalogit is pretty cool. It allows you set "watches", which is basically is a window that shows the real-time readings from the power fc. You can have as many as 20 watches on the screen at once. It allows you to format them. You can choose the font/color/size & background color.

Here's a screen shot of the chart that use to analyze my logged runs. The littel boxes are watches that I set up to show the numerical value of the data that corresponds to a point on each line on the chart. I formatted them to be small and fit next to the lines. You can make them much larger if you wanted to.

just to voice a different opinion - i have the datalogit w/o the commander. after tuning, i don't really have a need to look at anything (i.e. commander) so i don't see why you need to have it.

Oh wow this is awesome. Do you have any more screenshots of the software in action?

I wanted to get a full scope of its functions.

Maybe I can find the software to download myself... even though I dont have an fc box to interface with.

I like the commander. I mean, you can't really stare at it while driving, but for me its very handy since I only have a boost gauge. air/water temp, and inj duty. Nice to see those.
