Wink PowerFC Check Engine Light "Fix"

Well here in Cali we need to worry about smogging the car. One of the items they check is the CEL.

Just in case I can't find a friendly smog person, I decided to make the CEL work, somewhat.

Note that it really doesn't work, just provides the illusion of working!

Here's what I did:

Took apart the dash.

Took out two bulb holders, the CEL and the Air Bag light.

Carefully remove the copper connectors from each holder.

One set (2), cut the tabs off, the ones that stick out and make contact with the circuit board.

Used a dremel and a carbide bit to drill and enlarge two holes in each holder where the center of the copper connectors go. These are to feed the wires through.

Solder the wires into the connectors; on the side that touches the plastic. Note there are holes at the bottom of the connectors. Use those holes to put the wire into, don't let them stick out too far on the inside.

Once the wires are soldered, carefully slide the copper connectors back into their slots from where they were pulled out.

Test the connections by connecting a battery to the uncut bulb holder.
