Power FC Model number help please!
I have a 93 fd and I would like to know what the digits to a power fc I am looking at mean. I gathered that it is a new version based off this thread here:
https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...c+model+number
but I am not entirely sure how to decode the rest. The number is PFC FD3S4 020-4039.
any help is GREATLY appreciated, Thanks!
also, search function yielded that thread.

HOW TO IDENTIFY P-FC VERSIONS
FD3S - 96-98 RX-7 old version
FD3S2 - 92-95 RX-7 old version
FD3S3 - 99+ RX-7 old version
FD3S4 - 92-95 RX-7 new version
FD3S5 - 96-98 RX-7 new version
FD3S6 - 99+ RX-7 new version
The serial number is important as this determines Commander compatibility.
The first PFC's were:
1. 414-Z001 - 1995-1998
2. 414-Z002 - 1991-1995
3. 414-Z003 - 1998-2002
Later Apexi upgraded the software version and made the chip in the ECU soldered/non-removable, unlike those above where the chip was a pin type and could be removed.
Apexi re-released the changed PFc's with different serial and part numbers:
4. 414-Z004 - 1991-1995
5. 414-Z005 - 1995-1998
6. 414-Z006 - 1998-2002
POWER FC NUMBER------------------------COMMANDER NUMBER
414-Z001 --------------------------------415-Z001
414-Z002 --------------------------------415-Z001
414-Z003 --------------------------------415-Z001
414-Z004 --------------------------------415-Z002
414-Z005 --------------------------------????????? (doesn't say)
414-Z006 --------------------------------415-X001
The above numbers are from the Apexi website, but.... from discussions with tuners and owner it is quite clear that some commanders will fit some other Power FC's and that the list above is not a definitive 'this will ONLY work with this'.
COMMANDER--------------WHAT POWER FC ECU IT WILL ACTUALLY FIT
415-Z001--------------------------414-Z001/414-Z002/414-Z003
415-Z002--------------------------414-Z006/414-Z005/414-Z004
415-X001--------------------------414-Z006/414-Z005/414-Z004
The 415-X001 is supposed to be a universal model that can be used with all newer P-FCs for most other cars Toyotas, Nissans, Mazda Etc. If you order a 415-X001 for an RX-7 it will come with the manual for an RX-7. So a 415-X001 for a MR2 should work with your newer model P-FC for an FD, but you wont get the car specific manual.
You will know if the commander and Power Fc ECU are NOT compatible as when you plug the together and switch the car on, the commander screen will light up, display the APEXI logo, and that will be it the logo will stay there and the menu will not be displayed (as usually would).

Do the last four digits of the serial number mean anything of significance. I’m looking at buying used a
PFC FD3S4 020 - 1405
or
PFC FD3S4 020 - 4926
is there any difference?
Going based on above these are the newer version.
