Ok I know this might be a stupid question, but I am just unsure. Is it possible to run less boost then stock with a PFC? Or does it still treat the boost like the stock ECU?

 

You can lower the boost to 7 psi with the PFC (or any boost controller), presuming you don't have a midpipe and it's associated boost creep.

 

Hmm really, I am surprised! Why 7psi though? Now I do not have an FD yet, I should be getting one real soon. But is there a problem with the wastgate on the FDs not flowing enough?

 

It is the default of the actuator spring tension.

 

Read up on boost controllers. Lots of folks don't even use the PFC to control their boost, at any level. To that, there is great debate about manual over electronic controllers.

 

I just wanted to share my experience with the Power FC and Boost.

I had heard you didn't want to use the power FC to control or read boost because it wasn't accurate. No one really identified why, or how inaccurate. Steve Kan seemed comfortable tuning the offset so I decided to stick with the Power FC to READ and Control Boost.

What I noted was:

1. The power FC reads boost horribly inaccurate. After installing my new Greddy Boost Gauge, I noticed I was making 1 Bar consistently, and holding it. I MIGHT be lucky to make .88 on the PFC. This is between 1.5-2 PSI difference if I'm not mistaken. I've tried several different settings. The offset seems to be consistent across most boost levels, with the exception of vacuum, where it is exagerated.

2. The Power FC works FINE to control boost. After installing my boost gauge, I've noticed I'm not spiking or creeping using the PFC to control boost. I was under the impression I was only making 12 lbs of boost on a good day, this was mistaken. I'm running 14.5-15 lbs consistently and not spiking. A boost controller may help more in colder temps, however, for now (Summer in Atlanta, GA) it works GREAT.

My 2 cents. This is what I have experienced.

 

A search would have shown that this error was posted years ago and even how to create a conversion table from PFC to real word boost. Many owners have been using a PFC for 4+ years.

There isn't anything new happening with it, only new users.

Now the DATALOGIT has been around about 3 years and the knowledge is also posted between here and the owners group. Nothing new with it either.

 

My boost gauge is tee'd into the map sensor vaccuum hose and my boost reading on my gauge is nearly identical to that of the power fc.
