My tuner says not to get a used PFC due to the compatibility in tuning it. I believe he said that the older models cannot be updated or tuned with their current equipment.

I’m not exactly sure what he means by this but I was wondering if you guys know what the difference is. How can I tell if a PFC is an older model or a newer one?

I have a 93 Touring. I know I need part # 414-Z004. Is there something specific in the serial # to watch out for?

That just means he doesn't know how to use it. Or because he does not have a datalogit he can't use a laptop.

To tune you really only need a wide band 02, fuel pressure gauge, working knock sensor and a very watchful eye. Dataloging is helpful.

Not sure on the software compatibility from older to new so I'll let someone else chime in.

They all can be tuned. The older models read version 2.11 on the commander. The newer ones read 5.08 or 7.07 and theres one in there that starts with a six. I cant remember it but each has different maps. The 'older' version also is the only one that accepts the PFC pro chip for drag racing.

The datalogit software comes with base maps for all three versions but you can download you PFC info, regardless of version, and work with it. The whole point of the PFC was to be tunable. So, I think your tuner is and older version and you might want to think about someone else. Anyway, you can do it yourself, many members have with all the info that's on the forum.
