Pettit ecu just not enough

Well first things first i live in montana and have no one to trust to tune my car. I want to upgrade because i feel my pettit ecu isnt quite enough to run my mods. I am doing a rebuild with med street port full exhauset v mount basically full bolt ons oh and non seq. I guess my question is do you think i should stick with the pettit ecu or get a pfc with a base map, and try to do some minor tuning for myself or not risk it. I have a good understanding of how everthing works but i expect there is a harsh learning curve. Will this base map be better off then a chipped ecu i have herd bad stories about pfc with base maps.

You are far better off with the PFC. Buy a datalogit and wideband if you plan to tune yourself.

We get cars sent to us all the time with Petit and M2 rechipped ECUs that have blown engines. It is not completely the ECUs that are at fault, but the facts are that they cannot be tuned and they basically have a "base" map loaded in them. The map is not going to be good for every car, just like the PFC maps that get handed out are not going to be perfect for your particular car, but can give you something to work from.

Yeah i kinda felt like maybe it was partly responsable for my low compression numbers. Even at 12 psi i tend to worry. So i have been reading, and there seems to be a way i can plug in maps that people have already made and go from there. Tunning with in my safe zone as far as afr's. I would hate to blow a new engine. I do have access to a dyno and im sure that would be much nicer than trying to road tune in 4th gear. Im geusing you tune in higher gears to get a slower power curve so you can react faster to get off the throttle? Anyhow thanks for the imput. Now to find a pfc
