Need advice plz
Hi all,
First off, sorry if this is in wrong area or whatnot...guess you could call me a noob with cars and with this forum =P
I have a 93 fd and I live in California...not a good combination =( I need to get a california legal ECU because my car is running rich and won't even come close to passing emissions at the moment, what would be a good CA legal ecu? Car is mostly stock, so I don't need something super duper =P Any help would be greatly appreciated...
and no, getting someone to pass it for me and slipping them a 20 isn't an option, the car smells too much like gas and such when its running, i just want to get it fixed and leave it, if i lose a little power im not too worried about it...

This would probably get more response in the 3rd Gen. section. There are several different potential reasons your car is running rich OTHER than the lack of a California ECU. I've never had to deal with emissions, but it's my understanding that, at minimum, you'll need a functioning airpump, a properly functioning cat, and a decently running car. Since you posted in this section I assume you already have a PFC. My best recommendation is to hook up with another FD owner in your area...there are several on this forum from SD and get some advice as to a local shop or tuner and anything else you might need for a "visual inspection".

You should still get a PFC as it allows tuning of those problems. With a stock ecu, all you can do is BUY replacement parts which might not solve the problem. There is a mod that makes the CEL work like normal.
