Knock readings shoots up for no reason!

After chaning my oil this morning I fired up the car for a drive.

As I left my driveway I looked at the Commander and it was reading 80 on the knock without boost.

That black bar increases when I rev up the engine in neutral to about 4k RPMs.

So I decide to gingerly drive the car and cruise on the freeway.

During this time I would slightly boost the car and knock would drop down a little.

Where should I start on this?

I just don't get it.

never did it before? My car will have a higher knock value until it gets warmed up, then its smooth as butter.

It has, but ranges from 10 - 20, not 80 with partial boost.

I did spill some oil as I was filling it up (darn strut bar's fault). Perhaps that might have something to do with the knock readings going cuckoo.

I don't know if this will help, but I was talking to Rick the other day about the knock readings, and said once a customer's car was doing that, and they eventually traced it down to a bad air pump! Once they disconnected the pump, knock readings were totally normal again...

Worth a shot, I suppose...I could see how a bad pump (of any sort really) could replicate knock sounds in the engine bay...

nope, I've already factored that out since I have been driving on this tank for a week already without any problems.

Well before you go and buy a new airpump, try disconnecting it electrically first (should be a simple connector) and see if the knock goes away.
