just got my PFC w/ commander (have ?'s)

ok, i just got my Power FC w/ Commander and plan on installing it sometime next week (still waiting for injectors to come). Anyhow, i know how to install parts and that stuff, but i am not that fimiliar with the tuning process.

I read on one website that you just install it and let the car idle for 10-15 min. Shut the car off, start it back up and then go for a cruise. I always thought you had to adjust different settings BEFORE you drive the car. Does it just "learn" it's own map? Or do you have to make one? Do you make changes on it while the car is running or just with the power on?

Anybody from Minnesota want to help me

here is my mod list: stock motor and turbos, intake, dp, mp, exhaust, pulley, 1200cc secondary injectors, fuel pump, radiator, aluminum AST, Greddy FMIC, magnecor wires, BOV, ACT clutch, and 9.5# flywheel.

The PFC's base map is already set up for intake, downpipe, and catback exhaust. With these mod's you supposed to be able to plug and go.The only thing
I'm concerned with on you're RX-7 is the bigger injectors. You might need some fine tuning to get the
full benefits of the PFC.Add more fuel at higher rev's.

Since you have intake and full exhaust mods, including mp, as well as intercooler, you will need to take your car to a dyno and have it tuned. The base map will be too lean for your mods.

The PFC is a case of plug it in, let car idle, and let it learn. It does minor adjustments in some areas, but will not "tune" itself automatically.

If you have the Commander, you can change parameters in the PFC. You can do this while the car is idling, but I recommend turning the ignition to the ACC and change before starting the car. Of course I don't recommend tuning and driving cause of obvious reasons.

Hope this helps.

The stock PFC maps are leaner than the stock ecu. Make sure you get it tuned or tune it yourself before opening it up.

?? Leaner than the stock ECU ??

If the PFC is leaner than the stock ECU, then why do we shell out $$ for this product? I understood once a third mod is added to the car (intake, dp, cb) you need to have another engine management system because the stock ECU is too lean for a fourth mod, such as mp or IC. The PFC is tuned for intake, MP, CB, and either MP or intercooler. Once add the other, need to have it tuned.

I know with my mods: intake, mp, dp, cb I am still running rich with the base map on my PFC.

Yes, the PFC base map is leaner than the stock ecu.

You are referring to the three mod rule which has been proven false by Wade, as well as others. The only reason you need an aftermarket ecu is to run higher boost. The stock ecu fuel map is rich enough at 10 psi to handle all the bolt-ons. You will also hit fuel-cut with the stock ecu above 10.7 psi in the upper rpm range (the cut-off varies from 13 to 11 in the lower ranges).

The other advantage of the PFC is that it makes the car run smoother than stock, due to the increased processing power.

wow! this is a bit confusing for me

TwinTriangles, I'm just waiting for the injectors and clutch/flywheel combo and we will be installing the rest of it. The shop you are talking about would tune it for me? I figure if i take it easy and just use the base maps i could make it to the Cities right?
I think that i will get the datalogit when i get some more $$$
