How To Speed Up DL Logging Speed

For Those Who Have Not Read My Many Helpful Hints or Do Not Have My Tuning Notes!

(1) For slower laptops like mine (700MHz), disable all unnecessary services.
This frees up RAM and CPU usage.

(2) Only log data that is needed for the current run. The more you log, the lower
the log rate will be.

(3) If logging the ADVANCE functions, do not log MAP Ref.

(4) Examples from my PC.

AUX and MAP Ref: 54 records / sec

BASIC, AUX, and MAP Ref: 29 r/sec

BASIC, ADVANCE, and AUX: 19 r/sec

BASIC, ADVANCE, AUX, and MAP WATCH: 14 r/sec.

I forgot an exception. If you plan to edit the log to remove certain N columns or P rows, log MAP Ref as it makes editing very easy.

For those of you who don't know what Windows "services" are and how to disable them, you should look around the web for more info. I'm not sure what the equivalent is for Apple/Mac computers. Here's a link to some for WinXP.

Windows XP Services

Also, Chuck, it would be interesting to see a log under the same conditions (or as close as possible to the same) with the higher sample rate VS the lower sample rate. Do you have any of this type of data available you would be willing to share? Thanks.

Black Viper is THE source for XP service info. IMO, of course...

Not worth the trouble of doing it. Some people have asked in the past why BASIC and ADVANCED KNOCK or other shared parms between BASIC and ADVANCED are different in the logs: it is all due to being recored at slightly different times.
The little DL does not take a snapshot of all parms at the same time then output them.

What do you expect from a $300+ logger?
