Question High Idle on Cold Start?....

Hey all,

Just installed the PFC a few weeks ago. Every morning I start her up and she idles kinda high, at 1.5k. After a few stop lights, its down at 8/7 somthing where it stays. If I park after my drive and let her sit for an hour, it will start up at 7/800 just fine. Any longer, say 2 hours +, it shoots right back up to 1.5k at start-up.

What gives??????

thanks,

don't know about the pfc ecu but it may have some sort of accelerated warm up setup similar to the stock ecu (except at a much lower rpm, of course.) It maybe necessary to keep the engine running well. Rotary engines are programed to run a little rich at start up BTW.

Start your car in gear and that will bypass the accelerated warm up.

If it's really cold out my car will idle around 2000RPM and within a few minutes the RPM will slowly drop. I let my car warm up for about 3 minutes before driving it. I never had any problems and I'm pretty sure this is normal.

3k = AWS --- so this is not AWS because he is talking about 1.5k

How does the car run when it is cold? How is the idle?

When you installed the PFC, did you let it idle the way prescribed by XS Engineering?

My FD also idles high when the engine is cold. Two reasons I do not think it is the AWS.
1. I think one of the wires that were cut for the PFC install goes to the AWS.
2. When I installed a Gready elbow I had to plug the AWS hose.

Idles high @ cold start because that is what it is supposed to do. You have the fast idle cam on the back side of the throttle body that seperates when the engine warms up. That might need some adjustment, but maybe not. I don't think it gets wacked out too often. I ask about idle conditions because if the coolant temp sensor goes out your car will idle poorly at cool/cold temps and will do some strange things including not running as well. Always be sure you did the proper idle time for the PowerFC -- it is picky about this.
