Guess its finally time to give back to you guys
I got up the nerve to disassemble the PFC control unit. I desoldered (spelling?) the lcd screen from the main board. I used a 20 wire computer ribbon cable to reconnect the two boards. I plugged it back in after resoldering the the ribbon cable and it worked like a champ. So now I have two seperate pieces that I can mount independantly. I bought a piece of plastic from a radio install shop (came in a 12 X 12 sheet) for $5.00. I am currently working on installing the controls and lcd screen in the sheet of plastic so as to only use one of my two dins. Unfortunately I had to mount the controls sideways in order to make the board fit in the din space without cutiing into the cars plastic casing. I plan on posting digital pics of the entire project this weekend when I finish it. In the mean time does anybody have any tips on making a dremel tool carved piece of plastic have smoother more factory finish looking edges? I don't want the thing to look cheesy when I finish the install. Thanks.
Oh and bye the way my wife will kill me if I don't give her credit for doing most of the soldering (after I burned myself with the soldering iron) and making the detail cuts in the plastic.

here are the pics of the finished product. I'm installing it tommorrow so we'll see what it looks like in the car then. I'll post those pics later. Ugh I hate photos on the web. If anybody wants to host a couple pics please leave your email and I will email them to you. Otherwise I guess I won't post the pics because I can't seem to get them to work.

Nice work. I guess I have it a little easier than most. Im a micro-mini electronics repair tech. So when I have stuff like that to do I just take it to the shop to work on. Props to your wife. First time I tried remoting my head unit I over heated my faceplate and fried some components. Thats when I started taking stuf to work to work on during my off time. Right now Im working on remoting my head unit face plate to the back of the sunvisor and puting to actual head unit in the glove box. (need the extra slot for a flatscreen)

The pictures are in the attachment just download them. Everything works great, however I must have heated one of the boards a little too much because the main menu screen looks a little funny. However all the other screens work great. I plan on using the top din to install a indash screen. I thought about putting the screen in the visor also but thought it would look better where it is. Hopefully you will post pics when you complete your project. Later
