First Mod: PFC

Hey Guys. I'm getting ready to move back to the states in August and I'm stopping by my uncle's house for about a week when I pick up my car. The car's still stock right now and I'd like to get started on some of its mods before the end of summer. I was thinking of having a PFC sent to my uncle's house so I could put it on before I drive down to Delaware. It'd be something that wouldn't be any trouble to haul with me on the road, until an exaust system, etc. I'm still confused by how the units are sold in the states since the difference of fuel octane. I plan to purchase the commander with the PFC unit so I can do the programming for the future mods. Does the unit come pre-programmed for the stock cars from rx7store.net and other places, or does it have to be pre-programmed before you can install it? Is the programming for a stock car difficult to do or is it something that I can do with the owner's manual in an afternoon? Would it be better to go with the offer from SR motorsports that includes the tuning, or is it something that's not worth the price difference with rx7store.net? Thanks for help.

I am also new to the Power FC so please someone correct me if I am wrong but this is what I understand. The rx7store.net says "The power fc comes with a basemap that is setup for Intake, Exhaust and downpipe." This sounds like the Base Mod Map to me, which will likely be fine for a stock car and is a fairly forgiving tune, I would still click on the contact them link on their site and make sure. You can compare the Base Stock from the early generation of PFC to the new Base Mod here and see the differences. The most important thing is to have the PFC learn your idle when you install it, something I believe the stock computer cannot do. Even though the PFC uses the Base map for a guideline it still makes modifications as nessary when you Initialize it for the first time after installing it and letting it run for 30 minutes with no load for the first ten minutes, then ten minutes with the fan on, and finally ten minutes with A/C.

You can also order one from Banzai-Racing.com and Chris will install a basemap based on your mods.

The PFC is preloaded from Apexi with a base map that will control a stock car pretty well. For customers that have larger injectors or for FC installations we provide different base maps, regardless they still all need tuning. There isn't anyone that can give you a map that is perfect for your car and location.

The basemap you provided for me allowed me to fire her up on the first try, adjusted the TPS and it's idling at 800rpm and ready for me to take it to the local tuner. Thank you.

We spend a lot of time on the dyno, so the maps that we provide are good starting points. However all cars are slightly different from each other and people are are different altitudes, so the maps still need to be tweaked for optimum performance for each specific car. You may find that the map needs very little to be perfect.
