FC Datalogit software requirements
I tried to find the info on the Yahoo site, but couldn't find it. What's the minimum requirements to run the software? Win 95, 166, 200 for the processor speed etc.
I don't have a laptop and would only really get one that could run the datalogit software. Anyone have a hook up for a laptop that's about 4 years old

I'm wondering the same thing. I just went through all the Datalogit group messages and their website to no avail. I only have a P133 that I could use, but I'm afraid that may not be enough....
Anyone know the official minimum requirements?

System Requirements for DataLogIt
Here are two replies I got on the same question:
As for system requirements, anything with say 233mhz and 128mb of ram would be fine. I am currently using a Dell Lattitude 300mhz/128mb w/ Windows 98 and it's perfect. The Lattitude also accepts two batteries so you don't have to rely on the cig lighter socket. Oh, you do need Win98 or 2000 although I believe they have a patch for Win95. The laptop will also need a serial port (or a USB but the Datalogit comes standard w/serial with a USB adapter optional). IMHO, something in the 300-400mhz range will be fine and they can be had for around $400.

A basic window's PC with a CD-rom and serial port should work fine. I think windows 98 is the recommended Op-Sys. If there is anything else, let me know.

They have 233mhz laptops for $200, 366mhz for $325, and 400mhz for around $350.
They're so low because the cases my have a crack or small pieces missing, or they may have a dead pixel or two. For what you're doing, it won't really matter...

Thanks for the replies and the link! I have a buddy that just bought the datalogit, so I'm going to hook my lowly laptop up to it and see what the true minimum is. I'll let you know if it works out or not.

Cmon guys,
Minimum----I don't think anyone will be slower than this that I have posted many times. I am running the datalogit software and the TE WB on win 95 on an old Point 510 Fujitsu Tablet PC ($125 off ebay) powered by an AMD 100 with 32 megs and a 500 mb HD. It doesn't get much slower than that. Other than the extremely slow loads and saves, the data collection gets about 5 lines per second with all parameters being collected.

Thanks a lot for the info jeff. Sorry, I really did search a little while on this one!
Sounds perfect though. I don't mind it taking a while to load and save, just didn't want it losing data points or attributing them to the wrong cells or anything. Guess I'll be placing my order shortly....
Anyways, thanks again!

Unless you are going to leave your laptop permanently mounted and run the map watches 24/7, the commander provides a nice array of "peak hold gauges" in a small, unobtrusive package. The datalogit/laptop combo, while much more versatile, is just too bulky.
I am however working on a solution that will make the commander look like last years dog poop. I hope to be able to work up a small retractable touch screen to be mounted in the 1/2 DIN slot above the stock radio and serial cabled to a permanently mounted and ac inverter powered laptop (or tablet) pc which would be positioned probably in a rear bin or in the luggage compartment. The touch screen could then control the pc and any programs on it. Since the datalogit input would be routed to the PC all you would have to do is start FCEdit. Otherwise, you could set up a nav program, games or even a wireless internet from the same touch screen/pc combination.
Ah yes dreams!!!!!

Got a 3650 series but cannot figure a way to port the FC Edit software to the Compaq. Pocket PC cannot handle the input.
jeff48, I'm SERIOUSLY interested in doing what you mentioned with the retractable screen. I had looked into it before, but all the touchscreens I could find at the time were too large. Considered the Alpine style screens, but they didn't seem to have any interface for controlling a laptop. You mind sharing what you found that might work???
By the way, I program by day....so if we need any custom interfaces, that wouldn't be a problem. My datalogit is on backorder so I haven't been able to check into it yet, but my hopes are to hook into their existing code to make my own digital dashboard

So far, I am finding no joy in acquiring a small TFT touch screen. I am now looking for something slightly larger than the iPaq handhelds. Ideally I am looking for a screen that simply can be permanently powered by an AC inverter and connected to the laptop with a standard monitor cable. Should be no problem EXCEPT for the touch screen requirement (although a light pen may provide some possibilities). Worst case scenario, I can install some small screen and instead of touch screen technology, opt for wireless mouse and keybord. Let me know what your thoughts are

jeff48, those would definitely be options. Although in the car environment, I'm really trying to stay away from mice and keyboards. Seems to me I'm almost just as well getting one of those mounts for my laptop like what the cops use rather than go that route. My main goal in all this was to have something that I could leave in place at the track, and they're pretty particular about loose objects in the car. Sometime when I get a chance I might try to do a more in-depth search for touchscreens. Might be able to hide something a little larger in the glove compartment rather than the DIN slot.
Badog, that's pretty slick! However, judging from no prices being posted, I'm betting it's the old "if you have to ask........."

Just found this. $179 to add touchscreen functionality to anything. Wonder if it would be possible to disassemble the lcd part of a laptop and extend the wires attached to it.....

Man you know how to make a guy feel totally inadequate. How in the hell did you find that site. I agree with TailHappy that the cost of that tablet will more than deter my efforts to conjole my wife into agreeing that it is a "necessity". I will however be contacting the sales department to soothe my curiousity. I will share the results soon.
