dwell times

When i eventually get me soddin fd to stop flooding its **** off with 850cc primary injectors im gonna install my xs power amp. It tells me to adjust the dwell times 10 % which is no prob. My question is what are the dwell times and what do they represent. I wanna under stand what i am doing. Its a steep curve LOL

I have never seen the dwell times for the PFC explained, but it should not be too important since the ignitor will be triggering the XS power unit which will fire the coils. Thus the real dwell will between the amp and coils.

"The Dwell, at any speed must be MORE than the time (microseconds)
needed for the current in the primary of the ignition coil
to rise to it's saturation value. Or else the spark energy / power will suffer."

This description was from the days of points and old inductive coils. Still can apply for transistor fired coils as the coil has to totally discharge and recharge to produce max spark, but the newer systems are faster. These type of systems fire when the current is cut off and the field collapses.

CD does not have this problem and it does not fire by inductance. It fires when the high voltage spike energizes the coil, not when the field collapes.
