Does the PFC actually control boost?

something real bad happened the other day

the car spiked somewhere between 17-20 pounds.

i currenlty have basic bolt ons, no intercooler yet or pfc yet.

ive been thinking about getting the PFC first, but i dont want to have to retune it again after i get a new intercooler.

now does the PFC control boost? or after i get the intercooler and PFC will i still need a profec B? if so, i should just get the profec B now right?

Yes it does control boost, very well for most setups.

However, there may be something wrong on control system, vacuum, etc, as it shouldn't see that type of spike with a properly maintained stock setup.

What are your "basic" bolt-ons?

Agreed. With these bolt ons: Intake, Catback, and DP, you may see spikes of 13-14psi so long as everything is working properly, but 17-20 is REALLY high. I'd go and check all your vacuum hoses, pay attention to the one which controls the wastegate as it's probably not connected. BTW, with the above bolt ons, you really should at least look into a manual boost controller to tune down your boost some (both in terms of spikes and creep). The stock ECU can handle these mods (it runs the car really rich closed loop), so long as you don't exceed 10psi.

i removed the EGT so there s an opening about half the size of a pen. that is probably causing the spikes. im also sure my CAT is wasted, its still the original.

so a PFC should control boost is what you guys are saying?

Yes, PFC controls boost.

You are saying that you removed an aftermarket EGT probe? This will give you an exhaust leak, and not lead to a boost spike.

If your main cat is old and getting clogged, that will lower your boost, not raise it.

Something ain't right, and I doubt a boost controller alone will fix. I recommend keeping your foot out of it, and start poking around your engine bay. You're lucky your motor is still in one piece.

yea it was the EGT probe. i was under the assumption an exhaust leak would cause a free flowing exhaust, hence the spike?

now the spike only occurs at turbo transition. it is not creep. after it spikes it goes down to normal, 10 pounds or so.

perhaps something is wrong then, ill have to have it checked out. i have a 93, when i got the new turbos i put on a 95 turbo control actuator if that matters? so basically everthing on the exhaust manifold outward is from a 95, but i assumed they are the same, although i could be wrong.

That Is rather odd... i was driving the 2 nights ago bout 6 in the morning very cold out, and with my PFC i hit 17 lbs. My car starting shaking everything is fine but since i don't have my denzo pump in yet my fuel pressure dropped, i am lucky i didn't pop it. i hit 19 lbs again last night bout 4-5 in the morning again, did the same thing obviously.

But after it was heat soaked, even with it being cold i hit 1.1 bar and my car went sideways @ 60 mph, I liked it

But i need to break out my labtop and retune and put in my denzo pump!
