Cold weather tuning and fuel system issues

Just like thoes old day when I had a PFS PMC, I had to tune the car for the colder weather. I'm sure some of you old-timers who had one like I did a few years ago remember this always coming up on the big list every time the dirst cold snap came through. Its no different for the PFC. Tonight, temps are in the mid to high 30's. Before my boost setting were rock solid .86 psi in 4th gear pulls. Tonight when I toed it in, and then hammered it, I hit the boost cut. Looking at the peak number, 1.05 psi. Did it again, same thing, adjusted my duty cycle to lower the boost, and viola, back in the .88 range with just a few clicks, I'll move it down a tad more back to the .86 that I'm shooting for.

BTW, I also hit 100% duty cycle. For those who wonder what the max RWHP for the 3rd gen is on the stock fuel system, look no further for supporting evidence that you do indeed have to get larger secondaries or a rising rate fuel pressure regulator (bumps it up under boost). I was running the 15 psi tonight by mistake for 2 runs and hit 100% so don't believe that load of crap of turn it up to 14 or 15 psi and the stock fuel system is fine. Its not, don't do it, don't listen to the people who says its okay, cause they'll be selling the car or whining about popping an engine. Running them static open is unsafe and unreliable, for the injectors sake, and also your engine.

Peaching mode off,

Tim Benton

Hey Tim,

**** it got was cold here last week, man, my car never ran so well, I had intake temps of liek 28C at one point, with 94C engine temps. hmmm the power. I mean it was so bloody fast it was incredible. I find that with the codl weather, even at same boost levels it requires more fuel(obviously), I am hitting 92-93% innj duty all teh time now. I run .9 kg/cm2, I woudl lower it...but you know, so I figure I will just upgrade my fuel system.

ciao

Where ya been at lately? We've missed you at the meetings lately so maybe you'll come before you head back to the Great White North.

Do you consider 94C a good motor temp? Just wondering; I try to keep mine around 85-90 by using the fans.

Also, I'll be in the Augusta area from the end of Jan thru the beginning of April for an Army school. I should have all my weekends free; I'm looking forward to getting together with all of you guys !

Tim, I have been so busy with school, women, etc. Haven't even washed my ar in 2 weeks. I am definately goign to try and make it to more meets.

Rich, that will be sweet, will you haev your car?

I had that fan problem, adn a low temp thermostat, my car woudl run at 80C all the time. ran like ****. I find about 90-94C is great. I remembr reading somewhere that something like 92 or 94 is optimal. I don't think there is any benefit in running at 85-90, you are robbing power with the fans on. More heat can be great for a more complete combustion. It all boild own to what car is designed and tunned for. REmemebr 94C is still cool for an engine.
