cold start idle ?
when I start my engine the idle is very bounsy. Anywhere between 550-750, once the engine reaches around 60c water temp the idle smooths out at 750-800. Engine is a stock port S5 Tii motor btw. My question is two part. Is there a way on the commander to change the warm up idle speed ? Also will changing the idle setting effect the steve kan tune ?
First insure that your hot idle is great and stable. As this is the starting base for all other tuning in my book!
There is only the three idle speeds in the system. The differences between cold and hot are various tables. Most are only Datalogic accessable.
But using the commander and reading page 31 of the English manual, you should be able to improve the cold idle.
If the cold start system/hot wax rod assembly is still intact and functional, maybe it is not opening the throttle enough when the engine is cold.
You need to read section F of the Mazda field service manual and learn how the engine systems work..
The only part of any tune that you could ruin is only the part you change. And if is it already hosed, then you can not ruin it.
Do you have a Datalogic, if so you REALLY need my tuning notes?

yeah I need those notes could you pm me some more info about what is included and price. When I'm at 80c or above the car idles purrfect at about 800rpm area. Just when its cold I usually need to give it the slightest ammount of throttle to start it, then it will idle real low and bounce around like it has a huge port work done.
I just read page 31 of the manual. I'm not too sure of what the fuel correction value means ? take for example +10c (normally the temp I start it at in the am) it gives the number '1.57' for low load fuel correction -does that mean it is telling the injectors to give 1.57 times the ammount of fuel it would normally give compared to when fully warm at 80c?
I have the apexi power FC with commander and a innovate wideband sensor with a data recorder. I haven't really gotten in to using the wideband datalog peice yet.
are you talking about the peice in the center of this pic ? if so I do have one installed.

A larger value gives more fuel as a smaller value gives less fuel. That is explained and is all that is important.
Use the monitor mode to view water temp as you adjust cold idle fuel for smoothness. You have to go back and forth to see which adjustment area you need to be working on.
This is simple plug and play. Write down the original values and play with the commander as it was designed for.
FOTU!
