Can the Power FC control AC properly?

No one answered this question in my other post...maybe it got buried in my rambling. Can the Power FC be set up to properly control the AC, i.e. turn it off during cranking or heavy acceleration, or do you have to hardwire the dash switch to the AC relay as has been reported in other threads?

Thanks,
jds

All depends on the PFC version, or what make and year your FD is, or if you have installed the lastest main engine wiring harness.

My 1992 made R1, with a version 5.07 PFC(2001) would not work the AC properly. That is why I was the first to publish the A/C bypass wiring fix. So I had to manually turn the A/C off when cranking or racing, and it also would not increase the idle speed.

When I installed a new main engine wiring harness in late 2001, the problem went away. We always said it acted like a grounding problem!

Wiring harness is key

I'll vouch for Chuck and the wiring harness. I had the odd a/c engagement issue with my PFC, and it went away instantly when I installed the latest version of the engine harness.

Re: Wiring harness is key

Interesting! Did anyone ever figure out just what the difference in harnesses is? I know I need one...mine is getting pretty brittle...but I've been told it is an $800 part from Mazda and a bitch to install on top of that. Yikes.

The only visable diferrance with the new harness is:

It contains as an intrical part of it, the harness patch that Mazda install for the cooling system recall. This part of the recall put in the little black box behind the ecu which we all use for the fan mod switch, and to do this a batch harness was added. The new harness wires directly and you do not any more need the patch harness.

Evidently this patch harness was screwed up.

My R1 is an April 1992 build date. My Power FC is version 5.08. No A/C issues...

...or get on mazdamotorsports.com and get a fattty discount if you do some legitimate racing.

They sell racers stuff at dealer cost, not bad if you ask me.

Try FD01-67-070J

I think that's the current number based on the parts catalog, but I'm just learning how to read it. I downloaded it off the Mazdacomp site.

The cost is MUCH less than dealer cost (like $550 less), but they don't have any in stock - that means two weeks for them to get it from Japan. I just saved $70 on a new door handle assembly for the driver's side. Do yourselves a favor and start racing your cars and get Mazdacomp sponsored - Mazdacomp is the best deal going for our cars.
