Bone Stock Timing / AFR Questions
Hi guys, been lurking for some time. I own bone stock 96 FD (jap import). Stock efini Y-pipe and mazdaspeed muffler are the only mods (including PFC & datalogit).
I'm just looking for your thoughts and suggestions regarding what sort of timing I should be running, particularly in boost on 91 octane - it's rated 95 RON at the pumps over here, and its the highest available .
How much should I pull back from the Base Stock timing shipped with my PFC?
Any ideas on split with 91 octane fuel?
What sort of AFR's would be desirable on a basically stock motor for 91 octane fuel, particularly in WOT / boost areas?
Hoping a few of the knowledgable guys will chime in on this one (and thanks for all the excellent info provided on here which has helped me a great deal to date!)
Thankooo

Hi Chuck - to answer your questions...
Over here is Kerry, Ireland - see location.
As per my initial post - I have the Base Stock map on the PFC.
I'm thinking timing needs to be pulled because since my PFC is a JDM release, I'm assuming the timing maps are suited for 100+ RON. As I said, only have 95 RON (91 PON) here, and I'm getting intermittent (worrying) spikes in knock between 2 - 3.5k rpm under load. I am running a bit lean, but not so bad at those RPM's - I just haven't got out of vacuum cells yet.
I'm hoping you guys might be able to give a few pointers regarding ideal AFR's / timing for a stock motor on 91 fuel as there seems to be little info on this compared to single turbos info.
I'm not afraid of figuring this out myself, however I'm taking a lot of time just getting vacuum right, as I'm learning as I go. It's all new to me and I'm loving it.. Just hoping I can get on the fast track with a bit of help..
Given that there are no tuners or specialists in rotarys here, I don't have much of a choice but DIY - I enjoy working with these engines, (already rebuilt the motor on my other 92 UK spec FD).
Tnx man.
