Apexi Power FC Idle, Ignition & Backfiring Issues
Have recently had a Apexi Power FC installed on my 96 FD but are having some minor problems and was hoping someone out there has solved this.
My car seems to run good at start up however when it is hot and I have turned the car off and then driven again after 5 minutes the cars idle races to 3000rpm and back and forth to 2000 rpm for 30 seconds before idling normally at 900rpm.
Problem two, while in the monitoring mode the iginition peak result shown is 51 is this normal?? The knock sensor indicates a peak of 25 is THIS normal?? Can someone email me pictures of there screen as Im not sure my car is running very good??
Also, my car is experiencing some backfiring issues when decelerating over 2000rpm and droning issues would this be fixed by a resonator or should I put on the original Cat??
Other than this car has registered 306hp at rear tyres on 13psi
My car mods are as follows:
Aus Spec Series 7 96 RX7
Rebuilt engine
Extend port and extra dowels
Lightweight flywheel
3" exhaust
Metallic Substrate Cat
Magnaflow Muffler with 4" SP Tip

has it been professionally tuned yet? I hear overboost is pretty good. I just bought a PFC from Japan for my series VIII (picking it up from JP in a couple weeks)
So let me know how you get on. I was under the impression that the PFC for jap spec and us spec are different, I know there are a couple of guys from Perthrotary with pfc's too

Yes I imported my PFC from Japan also.
Ovaboost did a pretty good job, although I would prefer the tune be completed via a laptop than on the FC commander?!
The cost was pretty good too, however I also had a 3" exhaust installed also.
Droney as hell but sounds good at idle and full throttle.
My car has now got 306 hp at the rears on 13 psi...
I just love how simple the PFC is to use also - youll love it!

(Q1) My car seems to run good at start up however when it is hot and I have turned the car off and then driven again after 5 minutes the cars idle races to 3000rpm and back and forth to 2000 rpm for 30 seconds before idling normally at 900rpm.
(A1) Either the AWS is coming on when the engine is hot which it shouldn't, or the engine is getting too much idle air. The AWS is not needed at all; unplug the connector and see if this solves the problem. Otherwise, screw in the air bleed screw to the throttle body to reduce air flow until revs start to drop below what you want then back out slowly. You have to play around with this adjustment, trial and error.
(Q2) While in the monitoring mode the iginition peak result shown is 51 is this normal?? The knock sensor indicates a peak of 25 is THIS normal??
(A2a) Look at your IGL map, and use the ghost trace to discover this on your own.
(A2b) YES.
(Q3) Also, my car is experiencing some backfiring issues when decelerating over 2000rpm and droning issues would this be fixed by a resonator or should I put on the original Cat??
(A3) happens more with the PFC and modded engines than stock. Just insure that your three fuel cut rpms are set between 1100 and 1500 rpm.
