Anyone Compared Old to New Datalogits?

It would be interesting to know how much faster the new DL really is.

With all the posible recording parameters turned on, how many readings per second does the new DL do compared to the old DL? And at what ecu speed (MHz or GHz) is the laptop the bottle neck in recording?

If anyone has access to both versions of the DL, run tests with both on your car and give us the results.

My 700MHz laptop with old DL only gets about 30 readings per second.

I guess 30 readings per second if you have only turned one option on?

The bottle neck is the serial bus between the DL and the PFC.

I've just made a test for you, 800 MHz CPU, FC Edit pulls the values from FC Tune. At 86 readings per second the FC Edit software became the bottle neck.

What would be the advantage of say 100 readings per second? The human eye can only see 20-30 frames per second. I guess it would only bloat the log file.

What the eye can see, is not important at all.

The more readings per second, the more accurate average value you will see when you look at the log in MAPWATCH . This is where you should be looking after a run to analyse the data and make corrections.

the log file. Andre
Then someone should also do a serial vs USB ports comparison on the older DL.

Theoretical yes, but i doubt that you would see any difference. There is no value where you would notice a appreciable change within some milliseconds. Crank/rotor angle would be the only candidate.

There won't be any difference because the bottle neck is not between the DL and the PC, it's between the DL and PFC.

I bet many people do not also remove the data outliers caused by our cheaper test equipment that we use. These also screw up our data.

When the engine is reving so fast, and the mapwatch in 400rpm segments for tuning, recording speed is important to get more accurate data for those segments.
