Power FC *.dat File Database
Hello guys,
How come nobody has made a webpage with a LARGE collection of *.dat files? I know that there is a "maps" area on here, but those aren't dat files they are xls files which leave out a LOT of important info like P and N row settings, PIM voltages... etc...
I have plenty of speed and disk to host such a site, but I need files to do it! There must be at least 50 people on here with single turbos or highly modded TTs that can post up a dat file with a "notes" text file (containing your mods list and any comments).... What do you guys think? How about we all share our files.... or do you guys prefer to just guess what other people are doing on their cars?
Brian
P.S. if you're running the base stock or base mod maps, I really don't need those since they're standard maps that people already have

It’s a great idea but I don’t think people want to be responsible for other people detonating and blaming the author of the map regardless of any warnings and precautions that the poster of the map could give.
I know I would have my reservations about who I gave a map to.
And as many times as I have asked for a map of a almost identical setup as mine I have been very politely refused.
Besides isnt almost every car going to be a little different and hence need to be tuned specifically for each individuals circumstance even if it was a very conservative tune?
But other than that I think out of any type of car these are the most in need of open source info and all the help each person can give each other because there isnt a lot of places for us to go and get the kind of priceless info we can get here.
i think it would be a great idea though, even if only to educate people.

I think it would be a great idea also. There are several maps in the datalogit website files area. I have enjoyed studying those and using the compare function. I don't think concerns about others killing their engines are valid. Everyone knows they are "use at your own risk." More likely, they don't want to share maps that they paid $$$ for. Can't say that I blame them, either, but lets not fool ourselves into saying it's for the good of the rotary community.
Look I'll give my map to someone with twin T51Rs if they want... if they run it and blow up, TOO BAD.
The point of the *.dat database isn't to give people maps that will work on their car... the point is to see what other people are doing so that someone that knows what they're DOING can make some informed decisions about things.

The issue isn't blame for bad results but reputation. If I give someone my map and they later report that their engine went by-by, people will want to know what maps caused the catastrophe, not what stupid action was taken by the owner. In the long run, if a car blows with my maps, no-one will trust my advice in the future. It often is not worth it, although I have made exceptions based on my belief that the people I shared my maps with are intelligent and competent in their own right.
Remember that if my maps have worked well for 25K miles on my hard run engine*, it is because I have constantly monitored the engine and made sure everything in it is up to snuff.
* the 25K miles have been accumulated in 6 months during which the car has been my daily driver, helped me collect 3 tickets, street raced, road coursed at Putnam Park (about 3 hours on track time), drag raced on both 1/8 and 1/4 mile tracks, SoloII (autocrossed) on 4 different tracks and driven like hell on roads with the lunatics from St. Louis and Southern Illlinois (including the now infamous 3 hour run from St. Louis to Indy for the Revolution which included gas and refreshment stops).

Well, I agree with what Jeff said.
I have more maps than most, but I am not going to be in the responsibility chain when they end up on the wrong cars without the correct methodology assoicated with tuning in a car. On top of that, people are asking for timing maps and then come back with critiques without ever having fine tuned a car.
Maybe I'll post the my methodology and let others use that as a reference point. It would have more value than reviewing a bunch of "noise" just to get to some "signal."
