Exhaust Porting Templates!

Okay, I finally got around to making an exhaust porting template system that will meet our requirements for precision. It consists of a wrap-around stainless steel jig aligned with the lower dowel and a thinner stainless steel aperture template that bends to the trochoid shape and hooks to the jig at the bottom. The jig has precision laser cut bend reliefs which make it possible to fold with your bare hands without compromising accuracy. This way we can ship them flat and the end-user can fold the jig with consistent results. The template itself is thin enough to just hold to the trochoid shape but we may pre-bend them so you don't even have to do that...we'll see.

We designed four exhaust port templates that compliment most variety of intake porting. I will explain more on that later, but there are many possible combinations with regard to intake porting.

These are just samples from the laser cutting shop but I told them to go ahead with production parts ASAP. I expect to have the pieces in a week or so, ready to ship. Not sure about pricing just yet, but I expect it to be comparable to the intake templates and we will have a special deal for ordering them together. The exhaust templates will be available separately from the jig, so once you have the jig you don't have to buy it again if you just want a different exhaust template for another project.

I just got the lasercutting bill and it looks like there will be no problem offering a jig and exhaust template pair for $35, and additional exhaust templates for $9.95 each. The intake porting templates are also $35 each, so templates for both intake and exhaust would be $70.

The first four exhaust templates are named "EP1A", "EP2A", "EP3A" and "EP4A", rather than anything more specific like "FD Medium Street Port" or whatever. I did this because the same port aperture can work for different setups. We do have recommended combos however. The EP1A was intended for S4/5 streetport motors using TII rotor housings (we do not recommend the NA housings due to the exhaust baffle). The EP2A is good for 13B-REW (FD) small streetport motors *or* 13B-T (FC-turbo) medium streetport motors. The EP3A is good for 13B-REW medium streetport motors. And the EP4A is good for 13B NA Bridgeport or Peripheral Port setups. However, there is nothing stopping you from trying the EP3A on a streetported FC-turbo engine, or any other combo you care to make. In our experience, the reccomended combos work well, but the variation in setups is infinite and you might like to try something else on for size.

These are just representative ports that we felt would be of the greatest general interest. We will be developing more exhaust and intake ports shortly.

Sure. I am pressuring Rob to design every possible port for me to reproduce as a template, since I have a very reliable system for getting this stuff done right the first time and at very reasonable prices, for which we can pass along the savings. It's win:win. You get a superior product at discount prices and we still turn a profit.

Very, very nice. That also could be just a cool thing to have on your desk at work. To bad, I don't have a desk. CJ

lets say if I were to grind out the exhaust baffles in my NA. And then slapped a turbo onto it. Would you reccomend the street port exhaust template if I did?

I would not recommend going to the effort but, yes, that would work.

We just added another video to our RebuildingRotaryEngines.com site on how to use the exhaust porting jig and template kit: http://www.rebuildingrotaryengines.c...ting-templates.

Do you have the 12A templates yet? I would love mild intake and exhaust porting for my 79.
