I've searched, and I can't find an answer.
Anyone running a Peter Farrell and still have a problem with the 3K hesitation? The hesitation is driving me nuts, and I'm almost ready to do something about it. I 'm trying to figure out if this will solve the hesitation since the facory ECU is still there.

I've had the EFI/PFS pms for about 5 yrs. and had a very slight hesitation at first.
Lately I've noticed it occasionaly, but it's not that bad. I must have gotten used to it.
I have the extra ground strap but that never cured it.
Disconnect your battery and do the re-set (foot on the brake for a few seconds) that seemed to help some people.
FYI The PFC and not the PMS supposedly cures the hesitation.

I didn't have the hisitation stock, I switched over to a pettit ecu and started experiancing it, so I switched back to stock using a PFS and didn't have the problem. Since its just a piggy back unit it dosen't seem to fix it.

You could try buying another stock ECU and running it with the PFS and seeing if it helps. But that could get pricy trying to fix it.

You have an Auto? If so my '94 Auto ecu will be available before the week is out, and as I said, it dosen't seem to have the problem.

I have a 5sp but thank you for the ECU offer. I will try to reset my ECU, again, and see it it helps.
I'm always shocked that after all these years, no one has been able to find the real cause of the problem

Yeah, as I said, before I had thought every hesitation might be the fabled 3k until I ran the pettit ECU and found out what it was really like. So odd that all units are not effected by it.

But the PFS is still a nice unit for basic bolt ons.

I used the maps from the Cirian site that Dale Black used with basically the same mods as me. Turned a 12:69 et a couple years ago on 12psi. of boost, so I can't be too far off and the motor's still alive.

Those maps are way to rich. Your stealing power if you run them. IMHO They should be taken down so people don't try and run them anymore.

The only maps I had to use were the boost dependent maps and I added 8 on the fuel for the highest pressure setting (15 on my unit) and dropped 2 percent on each lower setting, timing was 4 back, one lower for each setting below the peak boost setting. There is no reason to add more fuel below 10 psi what so ever on a bolt on car, Wade proved that with dyno tuning and a wide band.

Why is that John? Just because rikki does not do it does not mean you can't. Besides he said he had retarded the timing. Your not going to damage an engine by doing that.

I ran a purple box for a while and I did have the stumble at 3k. I did the 4 gauge ground strap like mentioned and it helped some.

Never had a single problem with the timing, ran 14.5 psi on it, strong as the day is long till my auto tranny bit the dust because of the power I was making. All with fuel and timing adjustments in the boost maps only.

Yes sir. all you really need to do with the Purple box is the boost map and make sure it's got plenty of fuel at WOT.

Agreed. The purple box does just fine and I don't think it has anything to do with that 3,000 RPM hesitation. The glitch is in the stock ECU.

I got rid of it for awhile when I replaced my O2 sensor but it came back.

Had PFS purple box for 2 yrs and had 3K hesitation and major problem with max boost fuel cut-off. Solved the problem by switching to Apexi PFC.

Yeah I would back the timing down a degree or 2 for every pound over stock psi. Just allways been a safety measure for me.

The single best upgrade that I made was going to the PFC, pricey but I would recommend it on an otherwise stock engine.
