Does anyone know off-hand the stock whp that an FD and an rx8 put down? I'm pretty sure that the FD would easily put down 215 or so to the wheels, wheras doesn't the 8 put down a measly 180-190?

Crap, sorry for the misquote above...

No, bridge porting alters the intake timing so radically, it will not pass any smog testing.

If you're worried about emissions, there is very little options you have.
I'd highly suggest going turbo to get over 200hp.

my friend who works for the mazda dealer showed me the online training they have for the RX8 and it explains the fundamentals of it.

1) The 13brew gets power a few thousands rpms before the Renisis can. So it will obviously be a faster car. then again, its twin turbo charged and the Renesis is not. So that is a retarded comparision.

2) in the tehc article on it, it said that the exhaut and intake ports where enlarged in comparison to the 13b we know and love. So basically the factory did the streetporting and exhaust porting for us.

3)The sealing technology went up another notch or two

4) like it was said above, the tolerances of the motor improved.

I should get some pics from the mazda tarining site. He has a password for it, but i will if i can get some pictures and direct quotes if anyone is interested.

No, that's flywheel power. From what I've seen on the RX-8 forum, rx7.com's investigation, etc. the Renesis seem to make 170-180RWHP. (more towards the high side of that range) Mazda should rate the Renesis @ 215-220hp, not the 238hp or original 247hp.

I believe I have the presentation you're refering to, it's done in Flash? They have a scientific looking graph of the port area based on the port timing. The Renesis exhaust ports have a higher peak area compared to the peripheral exhaust. The intersting thing is that they have far less duration and no overlap. I did a fairly crude, but accurate enough for our purposes calcualtion of the two exhaust port graphs. The peripheral exhaust has ~50% more area over the duration of when the port is open.
