SR20DET Swap Into FD3S
SR20DET Swap Into FD3S
Sounds like a sweet deal to me. Was wondering if anybody knows of a site that explains the process or even knows the process themself. I've always been interested in doing this or something similiar. I'm not looking into getting into a FLAME WAR!
I want to play more with the Rotary for now, but I will never say that I won't consider a swap someday (I have to blow a few engines first
). I always thought that the Supra engine would be great.
Check this site...they know something.

and then we can stuff the 13b inside the Sylvia.
That will be one fast Sylvia
The question shouldn't be to stuff an SR20DET in an FD. The question should be about stuffing a 13b in an S15

sr20 in a 7 is a very smart idea.without pulling hte valve cover, you could easily make 350hp to the wheels.and thats RELIABLE power.rotary motors are like having a grenade under your hood.remember, if you detonate in an inline motor, its not critical. in a wankel......time to dish out another 5 g's for another.dont get me wrong, rotarys make good power.but for anyone to say they're reliable.... i have worked for mazda for 4 years now.if you have seen what i have, you would go with another motor as well.

makes the same amount of SENSE.
there are plenty of guys on these forums running 350 plus on their rotaries and who are not having problems.
its all in the tuning homie...why spend all that money for a four banger...if anything its the ls1 that makes sense if you are not into rotaries...but a nasty little fourbanger? yikes.

im not bashing the ******....they make great power.if i could afford to spend 5 grand every 30,000 to 40,000 mi. i would. when they are running great, they feel like the best car in the world, but i would rather go with something more reliable. im not telling everyone to go drop in a sr20 in their 7.if you are happy with doing frequent motor changes ten thats find.i dont have the money to waste on the car, thats all.you guys shouldnt bash the idea of the sr20. if you do the math,it is actually pretty practical. oh and tturbo....lets keep it nice ok.you dont know me or what i can do with cars.nor do i know you or what you can do with cars, so lets keep it clean.thanks....
art guy.....
why not put a ls1 in a 7? im concerned with weight issues. a v8 in the car would do great at the drag strip but not as well on the twisties.the sr20 is 65 pounds lighter than the 13b.yes you can make 350 hp fairly easliy in a rotary.as you can in a 4g63, rb25det, etc.
but you will not get the mileage out of the 13b that you would out of the others.

Um, about the 5k engine swap... I have a receipt from a mazda dealership in California and the total came out to like $5000...
that's with the Reman ($2500) Radiator ($450) gasket kit ($130) and $100 of fuel hose...
The rest was misc cheap **** and 23.8 hours of labor that cost $1666.
Basically, the previous owner got ripped off... as Malloy will hook you up with a reman for about $2000 or so? And $450 for a stock radiator... you've gotta be shitting me!
Anyways, $5k is pretty off unless you're mechanically retarded.

The 13b comes closer to the sr20's size when you remove all the associated twin turbo rubbish and put a single turbo in.
sr20 is a smaller motor. It's a downgrade to a FD, not a upgrade.
I can undertand someone putting a V8 in an FD - although I don't agree with it - But ripping out that lovely rotary to stick a 4pot in, come on you must be kidding yourself.

I like to see experments and engine swaps in the FD. I don't car if it's a V-8 or a turbo 4 cylinder or a triple rotor conversion. I believe it shows how versitile the RX-7 platform is. Besides, I would pay money to see the face of a viper driver when he gets crushed by a car like jimlabs or Mike hahn 3 rotor...he'll be thinking hard the next time he pulls up to one.
BTW: It's their car to do as they please but I am still a rotor head.
