THE RX7 KA-T runs!!

well like the title says, it runs.

...need to flush the fuel tank out now and get some good 91 octane gas in there. on May 8th the car is getting the cage, dash, driveshaft made.

after the cage and driveshaft get put in i'll probably take it to the track shortly there after for some test and tune flogging

Im using a stock wiring harness (recut and redone to my liking) with a JWT retuned ECU. im running a t3/t04e turbo (prevously dyno'd it at 373whp and 372wtq) with a N62 maf, and my own I/C, radiator setup. Mounts were all custom done but me and a friends shop.

tranny mount

custom engine mounts (solid mounts with poly inserts)

if you feel like checking out the build...this is my folder links

older engine pics before the rewire ect...

wow, that takes some ***** swapping in a four cylinder that was originally designed for a truck, turbo'ing it, and getting it to work. Looks good. Congrats on getting it finished.

The KA was not originally designed for a truck.

I saw a dyno of a stock ka (stock internals head etc, custom manifolds) pushing 500+

looks profesional, but i would heat shield that turbo so close to your brakes

pretty cool swap. I'm not into swaping anything other than a larger rotary into a 7 but hey thats pretty cool and original.

Very nice swap.

Only question is , your not worried that your rad wont get any fresh air ? and if your tracking the car your coolant temps will sky rocket ?

im going to be building a shroud on the front of the car that directs air into the rad/I/C this should solve some of that problem, i'll also be running a puller and pusher fan on each side of the setup...Yes im concerned with my coolant temp, so im doing everything in my power to try to keep them down, i'll be sure to watch them like a hawk on my first couple of outings.

awsome swap. i will be looking into a SR or KA-T swap in the near future. why did you choose the KA-T over the SR? man, i have a lot of research to do. do you think you could reproduce those mounts? where did the shifter come out in relation to the stock location? did you use the rx7 or 240 subframe?

nevermind. i looked at your pics and answered some of those questions myself. now i have a few more.

how did you run the exhaust? how low is it to the ground? specs? pics?

would you be able to duplicate those mounts? can you get a pic of the tranny mount installed? how is hood clearance? any other issues?

what rearend are you using? i take it this car is for drifting? if so, you definately need to do a lot of work to the rearend and suspension. i HIGHLY recommend respeed. theyll have everything you need.

Ok...thats alot of questions. for one i chose ka-t because i had all the parts laying around (sad huh) The exhaust is not 100% ran yet as i have yet to get my rear end swap done yet (waiting to sell my other car for funds..lol) It will be a Toyota 8" rear end (strong good for around 450+whp) The car is not low to the ground yet as my suspension mods have not made it into the equation yet. Once i get the Toyota rearend under the car, it will be held up by 240sx coilover front and rear (how you ask?...you'll have to find out later ) hood cleared by about an inch, only issue we have had so far is wiring (which has been sorted out) Im also planning on doing a TII brake/5 lug swap, so that will help in the braking department. Technically i can not duplicate these mounts unless your car (or anyones) was sent to me. I will however try to get More detailed pics when the car is back at my house (a weeks from now)

hope that answered all your questions...i love fabbing..and this car is my first so far.

~Nick

I'm happy to see you're making progress on your kat-7. I got tired of looking at the 240 i was going to swap in a tII motor into and sold it. For now i'm just focused on getting my FD back on the road.
