The REAL rbx7 :)
I've been working with a local shop to build this RB25DET. I've had it for quite some time, as it was supposed to be going into an old 240SX of mine. That plan fell through, and now I've decided to use one of my many FC's
The swap was previously in this well known car...
But, I doubt it was well known how **** the install was. Looks great on the outside, but you can't see the hacked up factory oil pan into a leaky, "mid sump". The pencil thin "custom" front subframe, so thin in fact, that the rack moved when turning :/ etc., etc., etc.
So my build is the REAL rbx7 Built, not bought. And built RIGHT.
Keep looking out for my updates!
Thanks,
Andrew

Bringing the beast home
Disassembly
Pistons/Rings looked fine, but the bearings were TOAST! Most likely lack of oil from misuse and abuse...
How it sits today. Snug as a bug

I originally bought a new OEM pan, which is front sump. BUT, since it is going into my FC and not my S13, it needs a rear sump. McKinney Motorsports makes an AWESOME aluminum rear sump pan, but I may get a better deal making one($899 yikes!!!).

Hey I just have a question about your swap of the rb25, I currently have an rb20det from a nissan skyline gts and it's just sitting in my brothers 240sx, he has giving the car to me for my 18th Bday, but I'm not a big fan of the 240sx, so i decided to by an fc3s and swap my N/A 13b for an rb20det. So my question is, was the swap difficult to put into the rx7? And if so, do you have any tips on what steps I should take to completely converting my fc3s into an rbx7. feel free to pm me thanks in advance,

Nightshade,
As of right now, I'm focusing most of my time and money on the motor itself. Also stripping out the car for cage, fuel cell, and the swap.
With that being said, I haven't quite gotten to the subframe and mounting modifications. But please keep an eye out for my updates!
Thanks,
Andrew

Unfortunately, as of today, I am unemployed. So, this thread can be closed and the swap is BACK up for sale.
Thanks for all the kind comments and inspiration,
Andrew

So what are you doing otherwise about the known rb weak points aside from $1000 of random coatings?
Tapping a drain/return from the head to the pan is one trick alot of hardcore rb tuners use.
And the oil pump breaking is a harmonics issue, not the oil pump. Balancing the entire rotating assembly and/or getting a good harmonic dampener was my goal when i wanted to go rb20 along with a raw brokerage crank collar.
Needless to say i did not buy my swap ($300 but would have cost well over $2k on top of that to get into the car and taking a pounding like a seasoned pornstar without making so much as an "ow, wrong hole" face) but the knowledge has been gained as i research everything rather thoroughly when/if i want to pull the trigger on something. RB26 neo cranks do not have this oil pump drive gear snapping issue, fyi.
