project "RBX-7" bring it on?

ok so heres what iv been thinking of before i go and buy a t2 for my 86 hardtop. i want somthing diffrent, i love rotarys and know a **** load and worked on them but im more like a long distance, track kinda guy but also would like alil drag to play with. so why not a rb20det out of a r32 skyline? i eliminated EVERYTHING thats ac even the heater and gutted out the dash. manual steering. and my car is SIMPLE no abs no power anything not even a rear wiper or rear cabins. point is i have a ******* light shell and my interior is almost perfect. so i would like feed back on this, i have cash in hand for the motor and i know that fabricating the motor mounts will be lots of fun but holy **** can you imagine the power possiblitys? skylines are heavy as **** but those motors ******* pull HARD oh and if you wondering the motor and tranny is out of the gts r32 not gtr but yea support or talk smack.

is this a question or what? you can put any motor into any car with any certain amount of work, whether you are capable of doing it or not is up to you, not us..

no way man... the rb20det dosnt even put out that much power, and is heavier than ****! you'd be better off with a s15 SR20 blacktop. around the same amount of money, better power output, more reliable, lighter motor, and parts are easier to get for it.

if your dead set on an RB... go RB26, as much as i hate that motor... at least then you will be getting good stock power, not to mention it holds boost way better than the RB20

Or, if your just dead set on the have a 6 cylinder, 2j, almost the same weight, just way more reliable.

Besides, for the money your gunna spend... a ls1 would be cheaper, and a 3 rotor would be close to the same price as the rb20 (well... maybe a couple grand more)

RB26 its good but you will have to buy the motor for around 4500 then you will need an rb25 tranny since rb26 its awd so i guess it will be better just to get the rb25. don't thing about the rb20 they are a peace of ****.

I think you should put an 300hp Mercury outboard motor in it

u obviously arent a nissan guy! there is a HUGE diff between the 25 and 26 and the 20 is a VERY capable motor!!!

plus the only reason my buddy is doing the swap is casue he first did it in a S14 240sx(first running RB26 powered 240 in the states) and then the 240 was totaled but the motor was still good. he fought with insurance for about a year and when he finaly got his stuff back the RB powered 240 was getting more and more popular by the second. so he was thinking of something to throw it in to be diff. i said y not make an unofficial competition of it and throw it in an FD to battle the Supra7 and now were almost running!! lol i def. wouldnt recomend this swap though, i too would much rather have a 3-rotor than any pissed-on engine, especialy when it comes to a FD!!!!! some day i wish to have a 3-rotor FD

but i am also in the process of building a RB20 powered fast back......

Riiight ! And a frind of my cousin's newphew's brother's buddy 2X removed has a LS1/20B potentially spits out 1500hp.... and by the way, my unit is Bigger than yours... WTF?????

Unless you're running drag radials, and 40" wide tires there's no way you're putting that kind of HP to the ground and maintaining traction.. in ANY gear....

Especialy in a "Street-able" configuration.... These 1000hp threads should go where they belong in a drag racing forum or at least racing thread / racing section.... and is far outside the scope of a "Simple Engine Swap".

It's bad enough that manufacturers are recreating the HP Wars of the 70's... and then they had a similar gas shortage.... I guess since we can't learn from history we're doomed to repeat it...

i highly doubt your "buddy" did the first rb26 s chassis in the country, there's been more than 10 of em in south florida since like 96-97 nothing special rb's suck spin em up and the oil pump blows it's guts, rb25s crack piston ring lands any thing past 450 plus horse power on hard boost, expensive to get parts. plus the turbo being on the driver side doesn't help our brake boosters here.always have to source a rb25 tranny if going rwd. drop a jz in there and kall it a day. not bashing your swap, i have a 2j /1j mix match in my fc vert.but the supra swap would make you happier , more power to you bro if going rb i would stick to the rotary.

the best supra engined swap I've seen was in an S2K. How can the RB and 2JZ push 700+hp? I've heard the toyota motors are bullet-proof but I didn't know there were capable of making 1000 HP.

Can i slap you right now or later? Please do some research on the prices of the 2 motors real fast. Or hey, ill fill you in... rb20det front clip is about 1400 bucks as opposed to the s15 sr20 which is like 3-4.5k for just a motorset!!! so shad up..

Go for the swap man, if you like the motor than do it, if you don't want to be like everyone else that go for it. They make alright power, although the motors are old ive seen some pretty nice ones. Have you considered a ca18det? same price, lighter motor, alittle less power.

I think a rb25 would kick *** personaly though :-D

^^^ in a 240, not an FC. I guess I'm just a purist, I don't see the point in making an RX7 into a crazy piston engined HP beast when the 240 is just as good, if not better, candidate.

first running RB26 powered 240 if u could read and not just try to be cocky.....

and u dont have to believe me if u dont want but he had about 650 when it was in the 240 and he completly rebuilt it and is shooting for 1k i honestly think he'll surpass that but thats just my opinion. i didnt post that to make myself look cool or anything i just did it for referance that i do have limited knowlage about the swap and if he had any questions i could find out or put him in contact with my buddy.
and there are ways around the oil pump *** hat, my buddy decided to use a dry sump system....not the cheapest way but it will do the job!!

dont come at me like im some little kid trying to be cool cause i know somebody. i know that what someone else does has no bearing on me casue i didnt do it, im doing my own thing..KEEPING my rotary.....ill have an RB in my s chassis and thats my choice, if u want info on the rb just ask and ill help u out or point u in the right direction...if u want to be an *** hat....**** OFF!

If you're dead set on a swap then why not be different? Try a BMW S54 inline 6 for exemple, or even a V12.

quote on quote "but yea support or talk smack." is what the original poster said , stop getting so angry about your stupid rb , this is a public forum therefore i can say whatever i feel like, but thanks for admitting one of the sad flaws of the rb, and for that you have to dry sump that sux man.i've seen rb's go even after the nismo oil pump, and next time use another derogatory statement asshat sounds so gay .

really different swap... F20 our of an S2K would be a killer swap. but then again, you could just go renesis aswell for the same HP.

> Dude, where do I know you from? Do you know the FDC guys up in SAC? If so, do you remember Fred? This is him.

> BTW... RB20 wise, all the above isn't necessarily true. An RB20 block can be modified slightly to put out some serious power for relatively cheap. The beauty of t is it's simplicity. RB tranny's are very similar to KA and SR tranny's and they can fit on there as well. The only initial problem from what I've been told by 2 dudes who work on RB's are that the RB20's head studs and gasket blow dick harder than Lil' Kim. However once you replace them with something more durable, like ARP studs for example, it should be good to go. I've commonly heard of 300-350Hp as a safe goal for a streetable RB20DET.

> BTW, reason for all that crap above... I'm planning to swap that into the white FC I left back up there in SacTown.

1jz 2jz > any rb series engine.

sr20s are okay, nice and light but will be a lot harder to make power with.

I have a 1jz in my FC, hauls butt and gets 26mpg reliably

> I also considered that option, but my 2 friends back in Sacramento have 4 RB's, 3 RB20's and an RB25 sitting around. I've seen an FC back in the day with a 1J, it was awesome little bastard.

So how much cheese and sweat did it cost you to swap a 1j in your FC? Is it about the same diffuculty to swap it in as an RB?
