Exclamation motor swap.... RB26DETT skyline motor

I was just searching around and I know about the 2jz motor into the rx7, but any 1 ever heard anything about a RB26DETT motor into the rx7 ?? Twin turbo and all. I was just wondering what would be the out come..

Engine

Type RB26DETT - Inline-6; Twin-Turbo Charged
Valvetrain dohc 4-valve/cyl
Displacement [cc] 2568
Bore & Stroke [mm] 86.0 x 73.7
Compression Ratio 8.5:1
Redline [rpm] 8000

Max. Power [Bhp at rpm] 280 at 6800 (official) 302 at 6800 (real)
Max. Torque [lb-ft (Nm) at rpm] 271 (375) at 4400

I love my motor, and all but God its a pain in the *** to work on that thing! but i'm sure this 1 is about the same when it comes to work on it and all but. just something diff. heard of LS1,sr20det, 2jz but never of a Rb26 motor!.

any 1? if so any pics?

I know a guy who has one just up the highway from me. I want to say his last rough dyno tune was over 700, and he's shooting for plenty more.
I can't find his name on here, when I do I'll send ya a pm, or he might jump in here and shed some light on whats all involved.

People talk about weight distribution issues with aluminum V8s, which is mostly crap anyway, given that the minor weight difference is easily handled, but with an iron-block I6, there's no skirting the issue. I've seen clips of an RB'd FD floating around. It sounds and looks mean as hell, but only in a straight line.

I think the first thing you should search is its weight vs. a LS1.

In addition, if you're in CA and plan on driving this on the street, a RB26DETT may not be your best option.

My brother has succeded in swaping a 2JZ motor in his FD but RB26 motor is too tall for a FD. Even if you have noticed that it sits at a certain degree to the left if seen from front in a skyline itslef. But since its made for a skyline, the engine bay is roomier enough to accomodate it.

FD looks wider from outside but the engine bay is quite narrow for a RB26 with turbos and throttle body and all imo

I was just curious thats all... but damn the LS1 is the most reliable and fast motor out right now!! doesn't matter how much you tune the damn thing the Rotary will always go out before 60k..
i'm talking about a heavy modded FD . with either single turbo, ported and all this stuff. seen a few people blow their motor with only 7xxx on it! tuned and all that! but NOT all of them! and the LS1 will get you better gas Milage.. but No woosh sound. gotta love that turbo!!

man I'd love to see an RB fd - But I'm pretty sure Kaisar is right on the money.

That RB gangsta lean is going to get in the way of a bunch of stuff.

yea. other thing to consider is the clearances of things. The I6 is long, so where is it going to end up in the way off?

If you do go RB26 try to get one from an R33 or R34 Skyline. The R32 RB26 motor had a crank collar oil pump drive issue.

That is my car. There are a lot of people speculating on how the swap was done and the limitations of the RB versus alternatives. My dyno chart speaks for itself.

This is why I don't post here much. There are too many people talking about stuff they know nothing about and claiming it as good info.

I have an RB26 in my FD with a single turbo manifold with a huge turbo and gigantic custom intake and it fits with the engine tilt and all. Don't post if you know nothing of what you're talking about.

RB is so expensive especially to get the megaHP numbers everyone expects when they hear GTR motor...

cool motor though, but I love my LS1FC all day every day.

I guess if I had enough loot I might think about an RB26DETT awd in a kouki S14 like FullRace tried to market.

Can you fit that with a stock hood or does the turbo stick out?
