Miata MX5 2 Slow

Yes, I do own a 1990 Mazda Miata MX-5. And no, I don't own an RX-7...yet lol! (in my dreams).

There's a co-worker that I work with who owns a second generation RX-7. And I told him that my MX-5 is too slow (for me), and that I WANT more power.

He thought it'd be cool if I put a rotary engine in it...
Is this possible? I have heard of people putting V8's in them in which they call "Monster Miata's". But...It's not really what i'd want to do.

I need some help on...well...pretty much anything to do with this. What's the wisest choice in a swap? How much would an engine run me? I idle all RX-7 owners...unfortunately i'm kinda stuck with a Miata.

Please Help? Thanks, newbie Mike AKA: MX5MIKE!

youre barking up the wrong tree. join a miata forum, not a rx7 forum. as you stated you can buy a kit to put a LS1 in a miata. if youre looking for a cheap swap, neither a LS1 or a rotary is what you want.

Well my cousin is selling two (2) 1993 3rd gen. RX-7's and I DO plan on gettin' at least one of em'!

And as for a cheap swap...I honestly don't think there's such a thing. It'll cost me $7K to get my 4-cyl. all rebuilt. SOoo....I would seriously like to get a rotary put in.

And i've never heard of any Miata owners doin' a rotary swap before.

Any ideas?

Ppls have actually done this before, and this was my first Idea, that is the reason why i bought a second gen and a Miata year 90. and the nice thing is that the motor is not that heavy, so you kinda still have 50/50 weight. But if that is what you want, you should go for it. It would be a sick miata. Make sure it is a 13bt though, make sure it is turbo.

Awesome! Yes, I would also think that a rotary engine is a wise weight and power decision. But I cant ask a miata club owner about a rotary engine, so...

What's a 13bt? And don't turbo's eventually go out after a while? or Decrease engine life on a rotary?

There is a huge number of Miata owners that have done all kinds of swaps. LS1s, 13Bts, 5.0L fords, 1UZFE, Honda S2K, SR20s. I have a 95 Miata. Go check out that site. The guys are friendly and knowledgeable, so be nice.
