...I don't see the problem; unless you're talking about the auto-swap. Volvo 2.3's are just about as robust as the ford 2.3 lima motors. Check out turbobricks...

 

I currently own a 240, and have had a few throughout the years. I love the cars, but in Naturally aspirated form the motors are gutless. I suppose he was going for reliability.

I've seen people who have used Volvo heads on their ford 2.3 before.

 

If you're pissed at the rotary but love the FC chassis, anything is possible with enough determination.
