FC Engine Swap? (Not LS1)

Hey, I wanted to ask you guys what would be a good engine to swap with my 13B? Anything like a KA24DET or an SR20DET? I'm a complete noob at swapping and help would be appreciated. What is a good engine to swap with?

Wouldn't an LS1 be too heavy? I want something light, I don't want to loose the agility of the RX-7. Also, I want to be able to drift.

Any other suggestions on what a good engine would be to swap with in a reasonable price range?

[edit]

Oh and Jager, what other engine section?

From what I know, the LS1 is approx the same weight as the turboII engine. (at least the all alluminum one is close enough.) I have been evaluating that route myself, and its definatly something to consider.

why dont you want the rotary engine?
It has less parts to replace, and although parts are more expensive for rotaries the amount you save would probably equal that of a inline 4 or something similar.

Personally, I would keep it and do a remake with stronger seals and wikid exhaust

If you want to know why to not do the KA24DE swap, you can ask my friend. He's the one that will always be behind me when we race.

Well, forget about a KA24DE, what about an SR20DET?

wrong
whoever said that is misleading.

it is the accessories, oil cooler, etc etc that makes the turbo 2 engine "weight aroudn the same"

use your head, and a little bit of intelligence.... ls1 block weights the same as a 13bt blcok? give me a ******* break.,

do a f20 - someone have done it...

what is so good about a sr20? it is the most over-rated engine by ricers.

like ls1 with teenagers....

lol werd on the ls1 .. althoe its kewl and all and hasd a very flat tq band ... its GAY and meant to stay in f bodies as far as im concerned ... even the sr20 is WAY over rated as well ... you can take a stock d16 from a 89-91 civic and the stock bottom end can handle 400+ hp ... if done properly ... or even take the dohc zc from a prelude ... there are so many plausable options ... ls1 is to easy and to common .. sr20 keep them for 240's .. just as played out as the civic ...... now dont get me wrong .. im not knocking a engine swap because i myself am thinking of doing one .... the rotary is great yes and it has alot of advantages .... BUT ... its also a pain in the *** when it breaks .. it just all of a sudden wont start or POP goes an apex seal .. granted the better one takes care of an engine the longer it will last ... but as far as im concerned if one is to swap a engine .. research all viable options .. pros and cons of the engine then cost and availability of parts and then application or style of driving and then most importantly .. how long will it take to make it work in a fc ... and ihate to say it but the second gen section has gone to hell with all the ppl screaming do a t11 swap ..... anyways at this point im rambling .. but yes .. stay away from ls1 and sr20 ... overrated gayness imo ...

sr20's are good engines, they do not belong in an rx7 though. People who have 91+ 240 shouldn't even bother with an sr, ka-T's make good engines and parts are redily availible for the ka.

And please, lay your sentences out better. Your giagantic paragraph with no capitals makes people not want to read your post.

Do you mean it's attracted to other engines? And how is the F body a better car than the RX7? Is the RX7 chassis worse than the F body, so that an LS1 in an F body makes for a superior performance car than an LS1 in an RX7? Or is that just your idiotic, quasi-religion talking again?

Gayness again? is this an obsession with you? Other than the fact that a few people have built LS1 RX7s and proven that they don't make the car nose heavy, how is it really "overrated?" Does it not do what is said about it (which would be what overrated means).

He never said the BLOCKS weigh the same. But in running condition, the LS gives better f/r balance.

You're right... LS1s are gay. A D16 or ZC is a dramatically better setup. The SR20 isn't a bad motor, but I don't care for most 4 bangers making less then 1400-1500 HP.

Do you people even have coherent thought processes?

Damn, that was like the best post I've ever read on Rx7club. That was a good one. I'm still laughing actually...

Edit: Oh, and to add my 2 cents... the D16 is a good engine and can make good power but I wouldn't go so far to suggest that it's better than an SR20 or especially an LS1... even though the D16 is a hetero and the other two are so obviously not.

The problem with putting a 4 cylinder in an rx-7 is that the rotary is such a short engine, and the 4 cylinders, being inline, are somewhat taller. If you look at my installation of my s2000 engine in my car, you can see how much I had to cut into the cowel to get it to fit, yes, i could have mounted the engine over the front crossmember, but then the balance wouldnt have been as good. I also have the engine as low as possiable, but the engine is just so much taller. It seems V-8's fit better since the V configuration makes the engine lower and thus fit better.

Dont give me that BS about an LS-1 being over rated. That engine has displacement, and its easy to make big power with big displacement on pump gas.
If you ment 'over rated' to mean 'common as hell', thats another thing. There is a lot of chevy v-8 conversions; so just for the sake of being different, it might be neat to see a Japanese v-8 or even a nissan v-6 swap, both of which would probably fit better then a 4-cyl.

also, dont let anyone tell you that your swap is stupid or whatnot because this is about you. A lot of people want you to do what they want, so they will automaticly think that whatever your doing is going to be dumb. If you look at my post on my swap, someone told me I was a "hoooomooooo" for doing this. I love how people come into the engine swap section just to start crap.

This is true. That, and the length of the engine, are two reasons why I'm hesitant to throw a straight 4 or 6 into an RX-7. Maybe for some other car, but I think it'd be criminal to ruin the great handling of the car by hanging an engine too far over the front wheels.

Thanks.

Oh, and just to clarify myself, I don't think ill of the D16, KA or SR at all. I like rotaries for that matter; but just cause it's a good engine doesn't make it the best choice for the application.

I must say, that is the first time I've ever seen a D16 referred to as "hetero". LOL

I agree 100% with what you're saying here. While I wouldn't personally complete a swap like yours, I can certainly respect what you've done, and that it is your choice to do it.

Didn't realize my Sr20 powered Nissan was gay, or over-rated. What's wrong with 200rwhp on a stock 2.0litre 4cyl?

I also love the LS1 that's in my 01 Corvette. Plenty of torque, great gas mileage, and great reliability. As someone who owns both engines, I would like to think I actually have some credibility to my opinion of these engines. I also have a 93' R1 FD3S with the twin turbo rotary, but plan on yanking it in favor of the LS1. I'd do an SR20 if it weren't for the smog ****'s here in California(hence why I'm selling the S13). If it weren't for smog though, I'd be awful tempted to try it because I love my SR.

Rip it and call the engines homos all you want, but until you've driven an RX-7 with the motor, shut the **** up as your opinion means NOTHING.
