so there is no way to mount the engine lower to clear the hood without cutting? i know 2J's are 1.5-2" taller so i can only imagine how tough it would be to install. i would like to do this swap but i already have a supra twin turbo so i don't wanna have to many JZ's. i do love the way straight sixes sound though.
since you have a rear sump engine, is there room to move it farther back? As far as the R154 is concerned there is a factory shifter extension that you could use. this one: http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g2...187/dy682c.jpg

http://i32.tinypic.com/dy682c.jpg this an oem toyota part.http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h4...9/CIMG3048.jpg
it moves the shifter out a little more, due to the differences in bodies that the 1J came in.

hmm that first one would work, second isn't enough.

as far as moving the engine lower, not possible with stock sway bar and my power steering rack.

So move that or alter the oil pan. not much room there either.

I have the engine as far back as reasonably possible.

Yes, they did. 2JZ waterpumps are the same though. I swapped out my hydro stuff for a 2j pump.

1. someone posted the na mk4 trans fits without needing an extention if i read right?
What is the tranny code for that? I dont plan on making over 350hp. I might upgrade twins with twin gt28's or something and a light ecu tune but nothing crazy. If it comes down to it and i have no "cheap" way around it, i'll buy the tech 2 shifter extention.

2. Thanks for posting the tip AND PRICE on your driveshaft. So awesome. I have a spare n/a driveshaft laying around i can use but i dunno if it will hold 350hp......

3. Do you have the sizes for the fittings used on your clutch line? I'm assuming you used -an fittings and appropriate sized hose.....-4an maybe?

4. Idiot cluster now useless, correct? Cels?

Those things were my biggest concern with plotting the swap. I've been thinking about it alot lately while waiting for my new bmx frame to come in the mail..... Boredom. Also, it's so hard to stray away from aero, wheels, seats and **** like that. I just keep thinking "bye bye shitty gas mileage, unreliable power and parts i can't get at advanced or napa......"

So I don't really want to be "that guy", but what are you doing about smog? Or is it a track car only? I thought I remembered reading way back on one of the lexus forums (I have a SC400 and some people put 1JZ and 2JZ turbos in those) that it was impossible to get a 1JZ smog legal(especially in CA) because US cars never had them. While a 2JZ or V8 would simply require all the smog equip and proper installation to get a BAR smog sticker.

Did some model of toyota here have them?

Just picked up a used evo 8 OEM FMIC super cheap, i'll be mounting it asap. They flow really well, we used to push over 500awhp on evos with them at WORKS years ago :P

Time to put that POS mr2 sidemount back on the shelf! restrictive pos!

The clutch line is actually an old turbo oil feed line i had laying around (LOL) works great so far!

Idiot cluster, some things still work that were on the body harness like the low coolant warning etc

not getting any codes from the 1jz ecu... seems to be running perfectly.

I took it on a long (350mile round trip) drive this last weekend and it performed flawlessly. Also it got 26mpg cruising 70-85mph with some boosting pretty awesome

The w58 (supra NA transmission) would fit fine with out a shifter extension. Problem is they tend to fail at about 400+ hp, I blew mine in my mkiv supra at about 550whp after a year of abuse. Not a bad transmission but no where near as strong as the r154 5speed or the baller 6 speed.

Supra n/a mk3 right? If so, great. There's always people near by parting or selling them dirt cheap. Only problem is i'll be stuck paying $350ish for a jza80 or jza70 bellhousing.......which is ridiculous. But feasibly, i could get a motor for about $900 shipped with the ecu and harness uncut. Pay $350 for a bellhousing and around $50-150 for a transmission so that's not so bad.

Are shift forks and slave's interchangeable with other supra units?

Shift fork no

slave yes

If you get the trans out of a supra or rare manual sc300 you wont need the bell housing.

The w58 out of a supra or sc300 is better than the older w58 but yes, cost more.

I've seen mk3 w58 transmissions for $50-100!

I got my r154 for $200 for my supra... just have to look.

the w58 trans is a lot lighter than the r154 too

Tracked car again tonight. Ran 13.7 @106 with a shitty 2.25 60ft. Feels pretty good.

Installed a boost gauge, peaking at only 8psi then quickly dropping to 6 psi till redline. No good!

Next up will be to uncork the exhaust and fit a boost controller to up the pressure to 10psi and hold it till redline.
