I'm currently working on installing a 1.9 VW td into my 88 convertible. The fly wheel has been machined to fit the VW. The machine shop is working on making the adapter plate right now. There are clearance issues with the motor.

the motor must be rotated over to the passenger side to clear the hood. you also have to notch the front cross member to clear the oil pan(wouldnt hurt to cut and reweld the oil pan too). The water nipple on the back of the motor is really close to the fire wall. I intend to make a new one the turns 90* as soon as it exits the head.

When I get home tomorrow I will try and upload a picture of the motor sitting in a mock chassis for test fitting.

On another note I saw a diesel powered fc on ebay a few weeks back. It had a diesel engine from a chevy chevette. Not fast but I'm sure it got great mileage

I'm using a intercooler from a Toyota supra (1988) looks like it was made for the
rx7! Lots more work to do but I intend to finish it by late summer

email me if you'd like more details

I've owned a non turbo'd VW diesel and love the idea of a diesel RX7. Get a turbo or plan on a car that is slower than riding a bike. My 1986 Jetta had 52 hp in non turbo form, the pre-TDI turbos had about 80 hp IIRC but they made good torque numbers.

With fuel prices the way they are Ilike it a lot too. I'm thinking 40mpg but probably more. I'm not looking for a fast cat but I think it will be peppy. Hope to end up with around 90-95hp

I love that obama campaign sign.
