why does the rx8 have a 3 port exhaust?

i know how the rotary works and how the wankle has 1 exhaust port per rotor.

But why does the renesis have 3 if its a 2 rotor?

i know the port is located diffrent but im puzzled if it's on the side housing why would it have 3 ports?

Since the MSPRE ( Multi Side Port Rotary Engine) has "multiple side porting" (meaning porting on multiple sides), the exhaust comes out the side of the rotor (left and ride sides of each rotor) opposed to the typlical exhaust porting out the rotor housing face.

I don't think you know how a RENESIS works. Your still thinking about the older rotary designs.

That's the way the stock RENESIS housing is.

All the ports on the top are intake ports... the three down below are exhaust ports.

it's for coolant.

anywyas, I count 6 intake ports, and 3 (or 4, maybe, if you want to count the middle as 2) exhaust ports.

are you sure about that? rx-8's dont (to my knowledge) have peripheral intake ports, both of those pictures look like they do.

that's how they were able to make more NA power and crappy torque.

Yeah 6 intake ports. automatic is different porting.

in the first pic it looked like that coolant passage extended into the housing

You are completely wrong unfortunately. That is a machined p-port someone else has put in it. You can see its not even finished, as it still has burs from machining. A Rx-8 has only side ports. 3 per rotor housing on the 6-port models, and 2 per housing on the 4-port models.

well, ahem:
The side-intake/side-exhaust port Renesis gains 30 per cent in intake port area over the older engine, and together with the delayed intake port close timing, makes for a sizable increase in charging volume producing a greater power output. The engine also incorporates innovative technology designed to boost filling efficiency.
The intake system on the Standard Power unit (Automatic model), which is tuned for superb driveability at normal rpm, has two intake ports per rotor, for a total of four intake ports. These are controlled by the opening/closing of a variable intake valve governing use of the secondary intake port. For even more accurate control, Renesis incorporates an electronic throttle control system that optimises intake control in response to feedback of sensors monitoring the degree and speed of accelerator pedal operation.
so, come again?
Side exhaust ports also allow engineers more ability to optimise porting. With Renesis, both the six-port High Power version (manual transmission) and four-port Standard Power version (automatic transmission) have almost 30 per cent more intake port cross-sectional area than the preceding engine. Furthermore, the intake port close timing has been extended, resulting in increased charging volume and more power.

I don't know why you're getting all bent out of shape over this. So explain how the ports and porting isn't the reason the RENESIS makes more power.

I think u ment side housing or iron not rotor housing tho

Thank you i didnt think that was normal... to have a lil p port. they have similar intake port arrangements to an older na engine. 1 per side of the center plate and 2 in either end plate.
