from what i understand the motor and the tranny bolt right up with a transfer plate they sell. I think they also have a motor swap conversion for the miata do a search on google or here on the forum there are plenty of people here that have done the all motor and the turbo. If not make it work while and just make custome motor mounts find the transfer plate for the motor and the tranny.

Good luck!!!

How much do you want to spend?

there are multiple ways to solve all of these, but at a minimum you'll need:

engine mounts
oil pan/pickup
driveshaft
diff mount
turbo is easier to run exhaust for than NA, but you'll need engine management

a place put oil cooler

the completed conversion is a blast but it is alot of work for the novelty. That said, I learned a TON as I have gone thru the different versions of my car. I'm on revision 4 now (I think), and it's getting close to what I wanted to begin with.

It would be best to become an engineer first OR have deep pockets......

but.......... it is FUN even though I only get to drive mine at the track.

Mazsport makes a kit IIRC, but I have no idea on included parts or pricing. Wish that had been around back in 1999 when I first took my car apart and started planning the conversion.

If I can put a turbo 13B in a Porsche 911, a Miata swap should be easy.
Start with a good engine, not a used JDM with "only" 50,000 miles. The stock ECU is not that hard to wire up. It only takes four or five wires. If you want more power you will want to go with a stand alone ECU.
I blew up my stock JDM engine at 130 mph on the track. I replaced it with a built street port etc etc etc. It has a Haltech E6K and was simple to wire compared to the stock motor (the hardest part of wiring the stock motor was getting a good schematic).
Mounting an oil cooler should be a piece of cake. You will probably want a front mount inner cooler as well.
If the stock RX7 transmission will fit the Miata it would eliminate a lot of other issues.
Motor mounts and tranny mounts are not too hard for a rotary. The smooth running. low torque are easy on mounts.
I say go for it!

No, its really not super easy. Just because they are both Mazdas doesnt mean it's any easier to do than any of the 10000 other rotary swaps out there. I don't know anything about 911s at all, but I've been around a few VW and 914 conversions. These were much less trouble mainly due to the form factor of the car. They got to keep the transaxle mounts, routing exhaust was no problem since it was already at the rear of the car, the radiator and plumbimg was the only real hurdle.

On the Miata everything you are trying to import from the RX-7 'almost' fits, but not quite. Make clearance here, make clearance there. It all adds up. You cant use the Miata trans or PPF, you need a crossmember. Nothing to hold the diff, so make that too. No big deal, right? Sure, as long as you get the driveline angle right, which will be too steep and vibrate like hell unless you have a custom sump and/or raise the trans tunnel to get the angle correct. It goes on and on. Just mounting an oil cooler is not hard at all. Mounting it somewhere where it can work well without affecting anything else's temps is really tough on a Miata simply due to the styling/nose design. Yes, an aftermarket nose could be purchased that may provide more room, but that's getting back into the 'How much do you want to spend' question.

I'm not trying to discourage Joe, but just put the actual facts of a DIY rotary Miata conversion on the table. It is in no way a simple project. But it, like anything, can be done with a little prior planning.

And....you've not had as much fun as when you get to reel in the guy on the Road Atlanta backstretch.........smokin!
