its the model of the carb , The brand name is webber , and 48 ida is one of the models theres a bunch more of webbers , you should search for webber carb direct ( i think thats the site ) Webber has sidedraft carbs , (which means the carb is sideways/ horizonal ) , downdraft wich i guess it sticks down , Dellororto is basically the same kind of , Just different brand name and THen Holley ,

I run a Weber 51 IDA. That's a downdraft 2-barrel. The Dellorto DHLA is a sidedraft 2-barrel that has less power, better streetability and a choke. Then there's the Holley, Nikki and Hitachi 4-barrel normal-lookin carbs. There's also the occasional Mikuni sidedraft as well. A Dellorto DHLA 48 has a 48-mm main venturi. Holleys and such are measured in terms of cfm, Weber, Mikuni and Dellorto are typically described by throat size (40, 44, 48, 51 mm). Are you looking for pics, or what?

pics are nice if they are handy, but no worries.

So if i was gonna use my car for daily driving and some autocross i should probably go with a Dellorto cause it would be more streetable. I would also spend more money on one thats easier to tune. I read that the webbers are easy to tune. how do you guys feel about that? Thanks for all your replys by the way. Matt22

You can find a link to my Dellorto setup for sale in my sig. Webers are more simple and make for generally better race carbs. Dellortos are more streetable because they have a longer progression region (part-throttle response) and a choke. Dellortos are unique in that you can even swap jets with the car running. You don't have to open the carb up to change jets. Webers have a larger selection of jets, but they're equal in terms of how easy it is to tune. Dellorto parts are harder to track down, as well, so getting a few spares is a good idea if you go with one.

Very true. Webers, Dellortos and Mikunis just look like works of art. I always thought so too...

Im going P-Port in my RX-3. I will be trying out a GENE BERG 55 IDA style carb. I wanna see if this will work better than my old 51.
