wow a original cosmo would be sweet to have, but i would be scared to drive it. well more scared that somebody would hit me and insurance would give me like 400 bucks for the car.

The one for sale is an RX5 Cosmo 2-door coupe, NOT a Cosmo 110. A Cosmo 110 is an all-out sports car produced from 1967 to 1970-ish and not sold in North America. (Only a handful were shipped here, and by their owners rather than by the manufacturer). RX5 Cosmos were manufactered in the mid to late '70s and resemble a luxury-version RX3.

Good luck ever finding a 110 Cosmo in decent shape or otherwise, let alone for under 3K. Those cars are so rare that an owner could ask any price and get it--- six figures wouldn't surprise me if sold to a cost-is-no-object Mazda rotary freak collector. RX5 Cosmos on the other hand can be had for under 5K in decent (if not perfect) shape, and maybe a little more if in showroom condition.

With a total of only 1519 (343 type L10A, 1176 type L10B) built they are super rare. They were mostly hand built and not assembled on a traditional assembly line. About 5 years ago a friend of mine purchased a 1967 type L10A for $25,000 in excellent condition. In 1981, I attended a car auction at the Aladin Hotel in Vegas and a 1967 Type L10a which did not run and needed restoration sold for a little over $10,000. That was 23 years ago! I think the Luce/R130 was also sold in very small numbers and command big money too.

They are selling a 110 cosmo for 45K. It is belived to be the only one in the usa.

Yeah, saw that. It was posted after I posted mine. 45K would be an excellent bargain for one in pristine shape. My point was (and is) that if a car is as rare and unique as this one is and in showroom condition the seller could conceivably get over 100K--- if willing to wait for the right rich buyer/ enthusiast to come along. Probably wouldn't have to wait very long either, especially if advertised in Dupont Registry.

If I had 45K, (or a 100K for that matter) I would buy it no questions asked. But, since I ain't got ****, I will have to stick with the 2.

i hear ya, i would love to just be able to cruise a original cosmo. but 45k is alot of money.

Yeah it is. Personally I'd spend that kind of loot on an airplane before I'd spring it for a car. But those spending that kind of coin (or even more than twice that) for a collectible car don't have the kind of cash flow problems that the other 90% of the population have.

I would love to buy the Cosmo if I could swing it somehow. It would be a pretty safe investment as I think it would never loose its value. 45K today might turn into 100K in 5 or ten years. After all, if Toyota 2000GTs sell for 100K plus, why not a Mazda Cosmo!
These cars are pretty tiny in size but thay are so cool. The styling is so 1960s Japanese scifi looking. The interior is very much like an airplane cockpit with a lot of aircraft style guages and swithes. Signal seeking radio, telescoping real wood steering wheel. The series 2 is slightly larger, more powerful, has a 5 speed and larger tires than the series 1. The series 1 is rarer but the series 2 is better equipped. I'd take either one.
