turbo shifter conversion

I am installing a s4 turbo tranny in a RX2 and I currently have a 79 5spd in the car. I have everything I need but does anyone know if the shifter comes out in the same hole in the floor? I do not want to cut my console because it would be awful close to the brake handle if not in the way. I remember reading about moving the linkage forward but I've searched and not found it. I do not want to take apart the rear of the tranny just move the shifter IF I have to. Someone must have this tranny in their RX2 so thanks in advance.

This very thing has been asked on here before.
I belive you have to move the shifter up about 3 inchs, thats if your running a 13b. This is a very commom thing to do over seas in Nz and Auss. If your runing a 12a, I wouldn't have any idea their.

What engine setup you running, 12a, 13b?

I have a 13b supercharged so my 79 tranny has gotten where I have to granny shift or rpm match so I have lost alot of the fun. I think you can shorten the linkage and move the tower up to the next bolts but I am not sure. Thanks for trying to help.

Doesn't matter whether it's 12a or 13b, the tranny's still in the same place. Yes u'd have to mod the tranny to move the shifter forward aprox 4". I've only delt with the 1st gen trannys, I did this mod to the '83 tranny I put in my rx3 to keep the short shifter. U may even be able to swap the neccessary pieces from the '79 to the T2 tranny, this is just a guess mind u.

RotaryRevn-Thank you for the interesting read but will not work for my installation. I have a 79 tranny and the shifter is approx. 4" further forward. Of course only tranny on RX7s like this since 80 forward even use a different short shifter as I found out and had to go to Aussie land to get for 79. I read somewhere a 626 brake handle was used so it could used after a new hole cut but they had to cut the brake handle also. I want to keep my center console.
