Tranny questions

If I build a 200 hp motor will a rebuilt RX2 tranny work for that? Does anybody care to give me a more technical term for old school rotary transmissions, like model or part numbers? oh, yeah, as opposed to a yes or no on the first question, why and/or why not?

What kind of engine? 1971-74 Rx2 4 speed will only bolt up to those year 12A engines. If your engine is 74 or later (12A or 13B) then you wouldn't be able to use it anyway. I'm sure most rwd mazda boxes would be able to handle 200hp but I'm guessing you like it to do it easily. I'd gravitate towards rib case gearboxes like 76-78 cosmo, Repu, Rx3 and Rx4 5speeds and 86-92 Rx7 turbo boxes which will handle well above 200hp and has short shifters and such available.

I think the best transmission to used Is a Rx7 turbo 2. The case is stronger and you can make the shifter shorter so it will fit in the stock floor opening without cutting your floor.
