Tired of RX-3s

it feels like my RX-3s arent cutting it anymore, I used to get excited just thinking of what I upgrade I will do next but lately, i have been bored coz its no longer a challenge. Just like what BB King said, "The thrill is Gone." :( I'm thinking of switching to other projects like a 70-72 Datsun 240Z or 74 Mercury Capri or a 70's Dodge Colt, or a 70s BMW 2002 or even the 70s VW Scirocco.

Do you guys feel the same? or its just me needing more heines :dunno:

Here are the before and after:

project 1

calculon 03-18-10 09:20 PM

My first rotary project was a '71 Dodge Colt. I got it for $250 cash and it ran (with the Diamond Star 4-banger). Cool cars.

I got it because as I drove by it, I only caught it out of the corner of my eye and I thought "Holy shit! Is someone selling an Rx-3?!"

gonzalezhump 03-18-10 10:22 PM

d0 Luck 03-19-10 04:09 AM

Buggy 03-19-10 09:04 AM

The problem is you guys are spoiled by being able to drive these cars year round. What you need is a good solid 5 months of snow like we have here in Canada. In the fall I'm sick of driving my Rx-7, but by spring the urge is back to get behind the wheel. Don't ditch the cars, just take a break.

Kentetsu 03-19-10 11:49 AM

Just drink more Wacky. Although, I came from a '73 240Z myself, and they are awesome cars to deal with. Super easy to work on, and great performance and styling. :)

Siraniko 03-19-10 12:10 PM

yeah I hear you guys. Too many cars and not enough time to play, but when I roll, I roll hard. But on the other hand, I have been working on cars since I was 16 so it has been close to 30 years in the rotary scene. To date, I have owned at least 30 RX (consists of RX-3s, RX-4s, REPUs, FBs and FCs). Don’t get me wrong, working in old RXs keeps me in check but it seems like I haven’t accomplished anything and still not content. Maybe I should get rid of my 60's-80's CDs particularly my Neil Young collection (…I’m searching for a heart of gold , Im getting old)

t_g_farrell 03-19-10 12:24 PM

WackyRicer indeed.

Maybe you need to do one of these:

Trust me they don't want him back. Last time he went back to PI... the moment he stepped out of the plane with his flip flops on, security came and took his ass away. Then puts him in a container heading back to port of LA. imagine that....:lol:

smurfy RX3 03-19-10 04:21 PM

Wacky... you're talking crazy, rotaries are in your blood. Although I have to admit to having a soft spot for 510's. You Cali guys have it good, most of the nice stuff here in the East rotted away years ago!!

13b Bro 03-19-10 04:29 PM

Time for turbo...

Siraniko 03-19-10 05:22 PM

I got everything, from turbonetics T72 to haltech and the whole enchilada, but I dont know why Im holding off for years. I can afford to buy a FD but it will just sit in the garage like the rest of my projects so i've scratched that idea.

Bugeye RX 03-19-10 08:45 PM

Yo Wacky I know what you mean! While I'm not so much hook on a brand like you, I am hooked on cars in general. But for some reason almost every car I've built I got bored with and sold within a few years of completion. Built a muscle car 72 Nova sold it, then totally restore a 1970 Buick Skylark to original, that didn't do it, sold it, then I figure I wanted a road/autocross and built a 1991 VW Golf GTI, nope that was fun but, sold it! Then I figure a cool pick was in order, built a 1963 Chevy C-10, wood bed and all, gone. Now I'm wrapped up in this Bugeye Rotary thing, and it's awesome now. But I bet that don't last once it's done! It's a cruel and expensive world, the world of a gear head. I'm already thing of the next one, one of them boat cars. Maybe with a Rotary? Anyways whatever you build I bet it will be awesome!!!!!!

EricRyan 03-19-10 09:45 PM

If you get rid of them, you're crazy. Go ahead and call the men in white coats.

Rxtree 03-19-10 10:17 PM

Rx3 for sale

You don't want to end up like the other guys....

"Man I wish I never sold my Rx3."

A few years will go by, you'll realize after seeing 2 or 3 510's and 240's a day that they're WICKED cars but they're not half as sought after as the majestic Rx3.

Sometimes you just don't know how good you have it until it's gone.

I'm going to either die in or with my Rx3.

REPUZENTN 03-20-10 12:20 AM

:dunno: about you wacky. Maybe its time for a REPU again. :egrin::icon_tup: You can easily fit one of those mobility scooters on there.:lol::lol:

CamanoRx2 03-20-10 02:26 AM

Having those feelings TODAY......

Pulled out the Rx2, fired it up, pulled out onto my private road(no tabs/insurance), drove it about 1/4 mile, and it shut off. Wouldn't start, pushed it back home, washed it, and pulled it back in the shop. I KNOW if I sell it, I'll NEVER have another, and I'd never get out of it the sum of the parts I have in it. Viscious little car, and my son would FREAK if I went to sell it. He wants to drive it, and I know what kind of time and money it would need to be something I could put him in and feel confident it would come home. I am in your same situation, Wacky. Money pits, these project cars are, and we all know we will take baths if we sell. Its a sickness......

Did I mention the 71 510 my son and I are building for him? Same thing........ Needs floors, quarters, paint, etc...... NEVER get the $ back, but I guess theres no way to put a price on the quality time with my son.

RotaryEvolution 03-20-10 11:26 AM

put a small block chevy in one

haha, don't kill me, i was only kidding..

BASTARD 03-20-10 01:40 PM

you need to take up a new hobby... maybe something not vehicle related??? I hear old folks like to play Shuffle board:lol:

glockster 03-20-10 07:15 PM

New goal needed Here!!!

1 Attachment(s)
Hmm, Im sensing that you have goal achieving Boredom, What you need is a new Challange Something that's not that easy to achieve.
An FD will certainly be exciting, "Have you ever driven one" "Amazing" a true
Super sportscar. and you could take it to the track and race it
or
Here's the Challange you can find and restore an R100 " Im sure that will be a challange in itself" a real fun car to drive and Rare as.
Than when youv'e done that resto you can start sourcing a 2dr RX2 then RX4 "You already have the 3's then a RX5 an FC and finally your Rocketship Daily the FD
and of course a temperature controlled Garage . Now that would be a collection
and a true Goal for a 30yr Rotary fan and a Priceless Grandson inheritence.

Food for thought!

Datsun smatsun, Beemer Schmeemer.

wacky, snap out of it!!!! its was only a bad dream!!lol

Siraniko 03-21-10 10:34 AM

you guys are correct. Im bored as hell right now and I feel bad for taking my cars apart to keep me pre-occupied. taking cars apart as in swapping motors, suspension and such so I can have busy weekend (islandsnow and datfast1 know what I do when im bored). in fact, yesterday, I took apart my midnighte blue RX-3s front suspension and installed another modified FB struts. that kept me busy for a few hours but I woke up this morning with a hang-over lol.

I will just let them hibernate for a few months and I will just run the usual pros and cons spreadsheet to make the right decision on the next project. and this time, maybe I will have the balls to invest an hour or 2 a day to take body/paint class at a local occupational center. This is what Im lacking right now.

Also, wants to correct myself for using a FD as an example. it is a bad example as it doesnt fit my old school mentality and it doesnt require heavy tinkering and being creative like the old school. besides, it is useless to me since its not old school exempt in Cali.

thanks all for the input. it helped me a lot:icon_tup:

EricRyan 03-21-10 04:03 PM

WackyRicer.....? Think someone changed your screen-name.

ultimatejay 03-21-10 10:31 PM

You've built your fair share of very nice trailer queens. Time to build a nice race car for a change and beat your best ever 15.0 seconds in the 1/4.:lol::lol:

SAVANT 03-21-10 11:14 PM

I can gladly bring my car over for you to work on it........lol i Know its a Rx3 but atleast its not yours ...lmao

Siraniko 03-22-10 08:19 PM

Siraniko 03-23-10 11:53 PM

im not giving up in my RX-3s, just planning to add a project to keep me busy, something different....too many choices is no good sometimes :scratch:

rotarydude 03-24-10 01:50 PM

I haven't chimed in but I understand what you mean. I have found myself from time to time getting tired of one project or another. I take a few weeks or a month and cool off and look at it from a new perspective.

EDSRX3 03-24-10 02:46 PM

How about a Sachs powered rotary bar stool!

That way you can have a rotary ride to get you back and forth to the beer fridge!
